Mad Racket proudly presents the first Australian tour of San Francisco’s Dave Aju. Known mainly for his brilliant releases on French label Circus Company, Dave also has new material coming out on Herbert’s Accidental imprint. His music rejects played-out clichés, instead combining unexpected elements into his electronic blender to produce some highly original, and danceable, concoctions. First breaking into San Francisco’s DJ scene in 1995, Aju quickly gained a reputation as something of a musical maverick, regularly breaking the unspoken ‘genre-codes’ of clubs, causing either dancefloor mayhem or head scratching. Undeterred, he continued to develop his mutant techno-jazz-funk hybrid, and released his first 12” for Circus Company in 2003. Since then, remixes, gigs, more releases and some serious props have followed. Last year’s album Open Wide, and a remix from Luciano, have continued to bring Aju slowly further forward in the consciousness of the music world. Here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor.
Alongside Dave’s live show will be the Racketeers Four – Ken Cloud, Zootie, Jimmi James and Simon Caldwell – doing the business, keeping it real and laying down the law on the Bowl-O-Sonic rig.
