Joy Orbison is one of the most talked about young producers to come out of London in recent years. At the end of 2009 his debut release - Hyph Mngo/Wet Look - dropped on Hotflush Recordings, receiving worldwide acclaim from DJs and commentators from a wide range of musical persuasions. His three subsequent releases (two on his own Doldrums label, and one on Aus Music) have continued to plough the fertile ground between House, UK Garage, UK Funky, Dubstep and Jungle, making every release just as anticipated as the next.
Ben UFO is (along with Ramadanman/Pearson Sound and Pangaea) one of the three minds behind Hessle Audio, the Leeds-based label that has found itself at the forefront of the UK bass scene since its beginnings in 2007. The label has been the home for key releases from Ramadanman and Pangaea, in addition to cuts from TRG and Untold. Joe's 'Claptrap' and Elgato's 'Tonight/Blue' both made countless 2010 end-of-year lists. Yet to venture into the world of production, Ben UFO has made his name purely on the basis of his skill as a DJ, the extent of which was showcased perfectly by his Resident Advisor podcast last month, a brilliant summary of the best in House/Techno/Bass in 2010.
