Funny how they grow up so quickly huh?........only seems like yesterday we were celebrating that first great party in a 250 capacity Islington bar.........and its been a wild first year since......World Cup Parties, Freelove festivals with a magical summer vibe....and finally onto our Winter series here at Cargo on a Saturday night....somehow in the very competitive landscape of London parties..StayinUP has marked itself out as a front runner in a relatively short space of (good) times!
We've been joined by some amazing guest from all over the world...and made loads of new friends. The residents and SU crowd have all pulled together and made the party something genuinely special......we feel very lucky to have been involved!
And so it is with great pride we announce 2 of our favorite acts of the moment, jetting in to help mark the occasion.....and if you know your music, you will know that this party will be a real celebration:
Craig Smith/6th Borough Project:
A stalwart on the scene from a young age this eventually lead him to make his DJ'ing debut in 1987 at Edinburgh's legendary club night The Hooch. His initial influences were boogie, jazz funk, soul and the emerging sounds of rap and house and for him it was a natural progression into the modern production techniques and sounds of dance music. He is known for his non-compromising attitude for the music he loves and has always refused to be categorised preferring to be known for playing "quality dance music". This has lead to an impeccable international reputation with gigs and radio appearances worldwide, and in his own hometown he is notorious as Irvine Welsh's favourite DJ with a mention in his books. So far all of Craig’s recording work has been met with great critical acclaim. He has had records out on various labels such as EMI, Instruments Of Rapture, Virgin, Maxi, Jisco, In Demand, Hush Hush, Soul Heaven, Restless Soul, Permenant Vaction and Future Classics under his own name and various guises, such as Harden Soul Project, The Wayfarers, The Soul Renegades and The Shaw Height Assembly and more recently 6th Borough Project. He has remixed tracks for the likes of Roy Ayers, Stephanie Cooke, Cevin Fisher, Roland Clark, Beverly Knight, Illya Rudman, Moloko amongst others
Playing a 2 hour set in the main room......Cargos giant disco balls and confetti cannons will never have seemed more a more perfect setting for an artists
Negru (Cecille)
Romania's Negru is part of a brillaint wave of East European bloc producers and DJs (think Raresh, Rhadoo etc)......and one of the hottest properties in house music right now. We are very lucky to have him closing out the main room for us on the 5th.
Born in a family of musicians, Negru developed his artistry as a youngster, studying piano for 12 years and carrying through the family tradition before becoming a dj in the after hour clubs of Bucharest.
He began as a resident in the amazing Studio Martin with subsequent bookings in all the important clubs of the genre, from Kristal to Midi and La Mania following very quickly. He has shared the decks with The Chemical Brothers, Loco Dice, DJ Sneak, Danny Tenaglia, Fatboy Slim, Alex Under, Tobi Neumann, JT Donaldson, Anthony Collins and already conceived some very notable releases which have brought him to the attention of the wider world.
Negru makes a very rare London appearance at StayinUP.........and in Cargos main room this will be something very very memorable
