HYDROACOUSTICS is a one-off day and night of cutting-edge site-specific electronic sound, AV performances and installations aboard the MS Stubnitz - a decommissioned East German fishing vessel turned music and arts venue. Both dancefloor and more experimental artists have been asked to step outside their usual styles and create new projects for this one-off event in this unique space.
The programme will feature an extremely rare live performance from seminal, secretive electronic post-industrialists :zoviet*france:, a specially commissioned new collaborative live work from Scottish techno artists Patrick Walker (Forward Strategy Group) and Ruaridh Walker (TVO) based on an imagined history of the boat, a very special installation/performance from noise don Roly Porter (ex-Vex’d) and visual artist Rod Maclachlan, and a live performance from experimental soundscape artist Helm aka Luke Younger (PAN Records).
New work and collaborations are being created specially for this event and space and some may never be heard again. More live artists are yet to be announced, and there will also be various installations and AV projects running throughout the day, such as artist Emmannuel Spinelli’s Aquarium, an installation which uses a fishtank to manipulate field recordings of water.
The Stubnitz crew have been moored in London since last summer’s ill-fated voyage to Bloc 2012. Sonically and visually unique, it's the perfect venue for HYDROACOUSTICS. The sound system is custom built around the architecture of the boat, with features like the pipes that cover the walls and ceiling (which was once used to cool herring) being central to the boat’s unique acoustics.
This will be one of your last chances to experience the Stubnitz as it sets sail at the end of May. The boat will be open 2pm-8pm on the day with installations and the chance to explore.
