Three Olympic games, the rise of Wikileaks, Curiosity landing on Mars, the first iPad, dodging the Mayan apocalypse: quite a bit has happened since we launched LEISURE SYSTEM back in 2008. From its home at Berghain, the rave spread to Moscow, London, Paris, Vienna and Barcelona, taking with it a spirit of musical mischief grown through London-via-Berlin roots. Leisure System returns to Berlin on August 16 for an enormous 5th anniversary bash, a selection of our all-time favorites alongside fresh faces guaranteed to make your asses bounce.
The lineup includes Warp mainstay CLARK, debuting a new set of fire-and-brimstone electro and tasteful abrasion. Joining him is ›Eno of the 2000s‹ JON HOPKINS, whose stunningly beautiful new album Immunity should take on extraterrestrial depth and propulsion on the Funktion-One system. JIMMY EDGAR takes a break from touring with Machinedrum as JETS to play a solo set of his rollicking sex-funk, while newest Leisure System Records signee HUBIE DAVISON will showcase his lush, interplanetary house ahead of the release of his debut EP later this year. Numbers boss JACKMASTER will dj his blend of low-key R&B rerubs and massive crowd-pleasers, New York City duo BLONDES will be spreading an aural sunshine that’s perfect for picnics and Panorama Bar alike, and LETHERETTE provide the unrestrained exuberance they’ve become known for after releases on Ninja Tune and Ho Tep. Rounding up the lineup are IKONIKA, whose stunning dj set at her last Leisure System appearance is still burned into our minds, and Panorama Bar resident ND_BAUMECKER, whose all-vinyl sets can be contemplative and incendiary in equal measure.
It wouldn’t be a 5th anniversary without our Leisure System residents. BARKER, N>E>D, Discipline, and PUZZLE will all be DJing with the singular sounds that have made them Leisure System favorites over the years, honed by years of experience moving dance floors and melting minds.

Nach Partys in London, Paris und Barcelona kehrt Leisure System heute Nacht zum Mutterschiff zurück: mit einer 5 Jahre Jubiläumsparty, die es in sich hat. Angefangen von Jon Hopkins, dem Brian Eno unserer Zeit. Auf seinem neuen Album Immunity pendelt der Brite zwischen übereuphorisch geschichteten Techno-Tracks wie „Open Eye Signal“, die an frühe Border Community Veröffentlichungen denken lassen, und ruhige Klaviernummern mit Field-recordings. Wir können uns ja denken, welcher Seite er heute Nacht den Vorzug gibt. Der zweite Berghain Live-Act ist Warps Clark, der heute ein nagelneues Set mit abstraktem Feuer- und Schwefel-Electro spielen wird. Auch live gibt es das New Yorker Duo Blondes, die auf ihrem neuen Album Swisher ihren kosmischen, angedubbten House-Sound perfektioniert haben. Jimmy Edgar macht eine Pause vom Touren mit Machinedrum und ihren Jets-Projekt, um bei uns seinen ausgelassenen Sex-Funk aufzulegen. Numbers-Boss Jackmaster spielt seine Mischung aus low-key R&B und mächtigen Crowdpleasern, Ikonika ist uns noch mit ihrem superben DJ-Set ihres letzten Leisure System Gigs im Gedächtnis – und davor und danach wird es auch mit den ganzen Residents noch mehr als genug zu entdecken geben.
