After the success and fanfare around the “Animal Instinct" 1st birthday in October last year where the venue was completely transformed in to a jungle, the cellar dwellers have come back this year with an equally exciting and colourful theme coined HARAJUKU NEON.
This year’s theme is inspired by the colour and style of Tokyo’s famous Harajuku area where Japanese youths have championed a fashion movement by mixing and matching a conflicting styles such as traditional, manga, avant garde and punk. Coupled with a neon twist, the event is poised to be a hit as it is expected that all attendees go to extreme effort to show off their creative style and inspiration. Explore, innovate and create the prefect Harajuku look by mixing punk with schoolgirl uniform or a goth with manga. This year the same strict rules apply, get involved, get dressed up or get rejected – no effort, no entry is the policy.
In a further big announcement, to celebrate the momentus occasion, the Spice Cellar is proud to announce that Detroit legend Carl Craig will be the headline artist at the celebrations. The night will commence early from 9pm and will also feature the beloved SPICE Troopers who play week in week out to a packed room at the venue.
In 2 years the Spice Cellar has welcomed over 50,000 patrons through its doors, has served over 5,000 Tapas plates and enough drinks to irrigate a small island. We have welcomed many of the country’s top jazz musicians including James Morrison to our live Thursday night Jazz Jam and more DJs than anyone can literally remember. Most significantly though, the Spice Cellar has been responsible for pioneering a musical movement in Sydney for underground house and techno, with the venue paving the way for more venues and events to feature more independent music and ultimately creating more buzz around lesser known genres of electronic music and those artists producing and playing independent music in Sydney.
