Animals Dancing: Young Marco

  • After announcing two big shows in March, we at Animals Dancing are very pleased to follow up with the Australian debut of Amsterdam’s Young Marco this Good Friday Eve. A graphic designer who moved to Amsterdam at the age of 18, Young Marco aka Marco Sterk started out as Rush Hour’s in-house designer some seven years ago, working on most of the Label’s sleeves. Over the years, however, Marco’s obsessions with digging and close ties with such people as the likeminded Tako Reyenga (of Red Light Records) led to a role in A&R with the label, searching out lost or forgotten records for reissue. Collecting obscure and forgotten items is something Marco started doing as a teenager, experimenting with production on outdated computers donated to him by friends. As the years went on, Marco began collecting broken drum machines and 90s new age synthesizers and in 2010 released his first record on his now defunct Hand of God label. Over the last few years Marco has released tracks on Rush Hour along with two exceptionally well-received EPs for Lovefingers’ ESP Institute and a hotly anticipated debut album, ‘Biology’ this April. Marco has also remixed the likes of Soft Rocks, afro legend Francis Bebey, Heatsick and local wild man Michael Ozone Renowned as a DJ who is likely to blend anything from the sounds of proto house, percussive gamelan, European synth oddities to Libyan disco anthems, Marco’s fascination with digging and noted ‘genre-free’ style coupled with the impressive ability to maintain the vibe and flow of a night makes Young Marco someone you don’t want to miss out on dancing to this April 17th.
