Satta, the infamous annual beach festival of alternative music and arts, is back. Well, it is actually moving from its homeland Lithuania into Latvia. Festival will take place on August 14-17th in Pape, a Baltic seaside resort located 20 km from the Lithuanian border and the previous festival site.
Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, USA, Israel, Spain, Italy, Canada, Denmark – and, of course, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Representatives from all of these countries will be performing in Satta Festival.
Forest Swords, Submotion Orchestra, Dirty Beaches, Kode9, Dam-FunK and King Midas Sound were the first names announced in Spring, and the lineup has doubled in the past two weeks. More than half of it has been revealed and all of the local acts from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will be presented in the upcoming week.
It’s in a way symbolic that the last foreign act is a solo project of Sasha Perera, the frontwoman of Jahcoozi, a band well known to the Lithuanian audience but never been to Latvia. The british producer Lone, a name that caused a lot of emotions on social networks, is also going to debut in Latvia while he played twice in Lithuania before. His show in Satta will be a part of his new album tour – Reality Testing has been released a few weeks ago.
A very important part of Satta are showcases by some of the most original and active event promoters in Lithuania and beyond. It’s not only a chance for promoters to expand their audience and find new listeners but a proof that the alternative music scene in the Baltics is small but very friendly indeed.
Minimal.lt family who are also the organizers of Sūpynės festival are bringing to Satta their favorite techno duo from Munich – Zenker Brothers. Promoters of obscure electronica and indie sounds STRC/D.O.S. are responsible for one of the most historic acts in Satta ever – a Belgian duo Absolute Body Control that was formed back in 1980. Tav Exotic, another Belgian project, will also participate in the latter showcase.
Smala, a dark clubnight running in Vilnius nighclub Opium, have spent one of the most memorable nights last season with the Israeli duo Red Axes. They are now coming to Pape, together with their debut album.
Curators of the sunny side of Berlin, Weboogie, have already tested the Baltic seaside sand last year. The international boogie family is coming back with hot new members and some tested ones – you’ll meet Ticklish, B-Ju, Nangdo, Alizzz and Bass Gang.
The Baltic Scene, a project meant for establishing connections between music scenes of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, will be showcasing some of the most interesting artists of the three Baltic Countries. Mionia and Mr. Myster will represent Latvia, and c.o.u.g.h. will be joined by Ludisnavski to represent the Estonian side. Some more names will be added to the showcase.
Satta in Latvia wouldn’t be possible without the festival’s long-term friends and partners, Dirty Deal Audio. The Latvian underground electronic label will be taking care of the abovementioned Mr. Myster, also ansis x Oriole, the beatmakung champion NiklāvZ and a few other brilliant Latvians.
All of the artists mentioned in the article and many more are published in the festival website together with links to their music and social media sites.
