In a world rife with hyperbole and PR propaganda, phrases like ‘innovator’, ‘living legend’, ‘pioneer’ and ‘hero’ get bandied around all too often. There are few DJs out there who are genuinely deserving of such terms, and fewer still who are unanimously acknowledged to be so. Enter Laurent Garnier, founding forefather of French techno, who will be joining us on 20th February for a very special Oval Space Music show next year.
From humble beginnings in the 80s at the Hacienda in Manchester, Garnier’s 25 year career has seen him launch and run his own global radio station, PBB, compose music for contemporary ballets and film scores and author a book, Electrochoc. All whilst releasing a vast and acclaimed output of music and playing countless clubs and festivals around the world. Garnier proves time and time again that he remains at the forefront of dance music, applying chameleon like dexterity and innovation to stay ahead of the game. Case in point, in 2014 alone he released not one but five EPs on five genre-spanning labels - Hypercolour, 50 Weapons, MCDE, Musique Large and Still Music - each a collaborative experiment and expression of their sound.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Laurent Garnier and Friends for a rare London show in 2015 ahead of the release of ‘Home’, a vinyl box collection featuring his latest EPs with remixes and bonus tracks.
