Charades are back and cuddling up with us at Something Else to bring another one of the most important of the new stock of techno artists.
Answer Code Request may be a relative newcomer in the techno world, with his first release only hitting records shops in 2011. With the ACR name not being known and the quality of his productions being so high many people assumed was an alias of a Techno stalwart such as Marcel Dettmann or Shed!! There was the industrial punch, heavy groove and fierce determination associated with the Berghain sound and Ostgut Ton’s artists, but then again there were so many unfamiliar layers and signatures. It merged Berlin’s Techno heritage with Detroit melancholia, and the rhythmic innovations of the most current bass music, and ended up with a sound original and fresh.
These new ACR tracks were so significantly different to what was already happening, that it could not be an established artist testing new grounds, but a new artist emerging to be that very new ground, and nothing less.
If you listen to the music of Answer Code Request, be it on his astonishing records, or his accordingly astonishing live act, or in the shape of his diversified and tremendously executed DJ sets, it all fits together. It seems it only took Answer Code Request a bit longer to enter the spotlight because he wanted it that way. He waited until everything was perfect and ready to go. And then it took him way shorter than almost everybody else to break through, and stay, just because of that.
From first public appearance to internationally acclaimed artist, performer and Berghain resident DJ, it only took Answer Code Request a year. Enough said.

PWD is the head of The Public Works Department, an organisation established to promote techno, house and other forms of electronic music in Melbourne and beyond.
In the 5 years it has been in operation, The Public Works Department has been involved in organising events and tours with artists such as Rrose, Chris Liebing, Kr!z, Inigo Kennedy, Truncate, Tommy Four Seven, Perc, Marcel Fengler, LADA and more, as well as numerous locally based parties, including Pleasure Planet.
PWD has also played in support of artists including Jeff Mills, Marcel Dettmann, Milton Bradley, Developer, ø [Phase], and many more, at various festivals in Melbourne and surrounds, including Strawberry Fields, Inner Varnika and Melbourne Music Week, as well as a European tour in 2013, featuring shows in Lisbon, Krakow, and the Tresor club in Berlin.
