Laurel Halo LIVE (Hyperdub, Honest Jon's)
The elusive Laurel Halo, with ties to the UK-based Hyperdub and influences soaring far and wide, will be dropping by to give her live performance a proper SF debut. To some, Halo is UK bass's most forward-thinking proponent; to others, her vocal experiments call forth the legendary pop experimentalism of Kate Bush and others. Clearly, any attempt to categorize her music is already multiple steps behind; with each new release, Laurel incorporates elements from techno, pop, and electronica in new and indescribable ways. She told us to expect a heavy dose of techno, but that's all she was willing to share. It goes without saying that this is not a set to miss.
JOHN ROBERTS DJ (Dial, Brunette Editions)
To those who remember the state of electronic music in 2010, John Roberts is a special name. At a time when dance music seemed singularly focused on whose singles could fill the biggest rooms, Roberts' album "Glass Eights" was as a stark reminder of the beauty that music, even house, could hold. Five years on, "Glass Eights" remains a masterpiece, while Roberts has kept mostly quiet on the production front. Now, with a brand new multi-media label and 12" on the way, he stands poised to once-again make an impact, and it couldn't have come at a better time. We're listening.
Bob V & Max Gardner (Direct to Earth)
Direct To Earth is one of San Francisco's most reliable techno outfits, having recently celebrated 4 years of incredible parties and guests including Carl Craig, Luke Hess, and Steve Rachmad. As such, we're lucky to have DTE residents Bob & Max lending us their dance-floor expertise with a special back-to-back set.
