JONAS REINHARDT
Helping listeners to escape reality—which has been known to grate, on occasion—has long been a noble aim of many musicians. One of the most effective ways to do that is to create imaginary soundtracks for impossible science-fiction films, the darker and more un-Hollywood-like, the better. Another method is to take inspiration from great works of architecture—which, as Goethe cogently noted, “is frozen music.” The latter route is used by Brooklyn producer Jonas Reinhardt (aka Jesse Reiner) on his sixth album, Palace Savant.
Reiner undergoes a profound solo odyssey on this album. Palace Savant may be the most spectacular realization of Jonas' outward-bound sonic aspirations. These eight tracks draw on 14th-century architect Peter Parler's breath-taking St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. “St. Vitus is a statement to the future by the rulers at the time,” Reiner says. “It's surreal, grandiose, psychedelic—and the sheer scale of human ambition involved is almost beyond comprehension.” Parler reportedly deviated from the cathedral's initial blueprint and elevated the Gothic style to heretofore unimagined, bizarre levels. With Palace Savant, Reiner projected Parler's handiwork to Thomas Edison's era of electricity. “I envisioned [Parler] retrofitting his cathedral with excesses of incandescent light, preparing for a coming age of electronics. Palace Savant is what a contemporary electronic performance in that space might sound like.”

CERTAIN CREATURES (born Oliver Chapoy) wrestles with the three marks of existence - impermanence, suffering and realization of the non-self - throughout Vipassanā, his debut album on Styles Upon Styles.
Vipassanā, a Buddhist term denoting insight into the true nature of reality, explores Oliver’s relationship between the self and external stimuli, chronicled across twelve episodes of power electronics, techno and darkwave pop. Oliver addresses a spectrum of expression, from ferocity and indifference to love and transcendence, with a narrative strength emanating from over 15 years of writing experience across various genres.
For Mysteries, Oliver strips away the techno edge and brings us a live performance of experimental electronics, sure to hex the mind.
Vipassanā will be released on Friday October 30.

BIRDS OF PREY is an ever-evolving process of chaos, immediacy, and necessity. Like an organism emerging from the sea to walk on land for the first time, there is no grand plan, and no going back. The story of the group's friendship in many ways mirrors their method. They were brought together by a shared fascination with the sublime potential of electricity to generate something unknown, and a mutual trust that a path would reveal itself as they move forward through the dark. This will be the debut live performance by Birds of Prey.

PATRICK RUSSELL is a true veteran of the US underground, perhaps one of the last unsung heroes of a now lost era in the Midwest. A pure sonic storyteller, he magically transforms the diaspora of acid, IDM, experimental ambient, and pure jack energy into a deep, fluent sonic dialog that never fails to devastate both minds and dance floor.
A Detroit-bred DJ, artist and producer since the early 90's, Patrick has now made Brooklyn his home. Perhaps best known as a key figure in the legendary No Way Back parties, his resume includes such highlights as an exclusive 2007 DJ set with Jeff Mills in Detroit and performing at the 2001 & 2008 DEMF/Movement festivals, to regular appearances at Mysteries Of The Deep, Bunker, and Capriccio in New York. His ability to weave unique, long-format narratives has also earned him featured spots at festivals such as Unsound, Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, and Labyrinth Festival in Japan. Patrick has also been steadily building a strong catalog of high-profile remixes to compliment his increasingly varied, hypnotic, and in-demand DJ sets.
His consummate taste and disciplined execution have created a respect that cannot be purchased. Patrick Russell is not just a name to watch, he is one to be experienced.
