  • Danley Sound Installation by subBASS Soundsystem — - - — PANABRITE Emerging from a love of early electronic, concrete and tape music, soundtracks and early new age, Panabrite (Norm Chambers) attempts to create worlds of sound that touch on many elements and moods, from more spatially motivated ambient to aspects of cosmic synth, minimalist composition and improvisation. Panabrite works in the hazy, analog-synth-laden zone between kosmische drift and new age waft. Such artists tread a fine line between sublimity and schmaltz, but Norm confidently steers his armada of tones to the former state. On releases like Contemplating the Observatory and Wizard Chimes, he launches beatless symphonies of fibrillating, smeared whorls and drones that make you feel like the star of a weird nature documentary or a sci-fi blockbuster from 1977. Chambers excels at evoking both the intimate and the epic with his scrupulously wrought arpeggios and ostinatos. There's something of Vangelis's grandiose melodic sweep, too, in Panabrite's expansive compositions. One track from Observatory is titled "Shimmering Pinnacles," and it's the truth. - Dave Segal, The Stranger This will be the New York debut live performance by Panabrite. http://panabrite.bandcamp.com — - - — FURTHER REDUCTIONS Shawn O’Sullivan and Katie Rose formed Further Reductions in 2008 as an outlet for their shared passion of electronic dance music. O’Sullivan, known for his recent techno releases as Vapauteen on LIES, 400PPM on Avian and Civil Duty (with Beau Wanzer) on The Corner has been quite active lately blurring the lines between techno and noise music. With Further Reductions, O’Sullivan’s rhythmic sensibility is fused with Rose’s pop leanings to create super lush and atmospheric tracks that work both on and off the dance floor. Informed by the sounds of classic techno and early house, they subtly substitute the structure of functional club music with a more primal absorption based in their unique collaboration. Seductive vocals coupled with organically evolving sequences create a complex narrative that penetrates the subconscious in a way that conventional club music rarely threatens to. We celebrate the 50th release of the Mysteries podcast with a stunning mix from Further Reductions. http://mysteriesofthedeep.mx/lfr http://minimalwave.com/artists/artist/further-reductions http://soundcloud.com/further-reductions — - - — WILLIAM SELMAN William Selman is a Portland-based musician whose work includes modular synthesis, field recordings, and live percussion. The last few years have been quite busy for Selman, with releases on HAUSU MOUNTAIN and Digitalis LTD. His dynamic synth performances encompass throbbing bass rhythms, hallucinatory effects manipulation, and drifting lead voices derived from the ambient/drone tradition – all filtered through intricate digital processes and looping systems. William has new music as part of the documentary Do Not Resist. https://tribecafilm.com/filmguide/do-not-resist-2016 https://soundcloud.com/wselman http://hausumountain.bandcamp.com — - - — PATRICK RUSSELL Patrick Russell is a true veteran of the US underground, perhaps one of the last unsung heroes of a now lost era in the Midwest. A genuine sonic storyteller, he magically transforms the diaspora of acid, ambient, IDM, and pure jack energy into a deep, fluent sonic dialog that never fails to devastate both minds and dance floor. A Detroit-bred DJ, artist and producer active since the early 90's, Patrick has now made New York City his home. Perhaps best known as a key figure in the legendary No Way Back parties, his ability to weave intensely unique, long-format narratives has earned him critical acclaim for his recent appearance at Berghain, not to mention featured spots at festivals such as Japan’s famed Labyrinth, Unsound, and numerous appearances at DEMF/Movement. He's also been a cornerstone of Brooklyn's own Mysteries Of The Deep events, where his experimental sets expand to encompass the cinematic and supernatural. Patrick has also been steadily building a strong catalog of high-profile productions to compliment his increasingly varied, hypnotic, and in-demand DJ sets; his new 3-track remix EP on The Bunker New York also marks his induction as an official resident DJ at the long-running Brooklyn party. https://soundcloud.com/mysteriesofthedeep/pr-xxxiii http://thebunkerny.com/artists/patrick-russell — - - — KEN MEIER Playing techno in public since '95, Ken Meier picked up his first pair of decks at the impressionable age of fourteen. Alongside his older brother and long-time collaborator, Karl, Ken cut his teeth at various parties in and around the midwest, including festival lineups for Drop Bass and Black Nation. While living in Chicago, Ken and Karl worked at the legendary Gramaphone Records, and hosted weekly shows on Chicago radio stations such as WNUR and WHPK. The two also organized parties under the name Fear of Music. These events featured sets from Surgeon, Anthony Shakir, BMG, John Roberts, James Ruskin, Spencer Kincy, and Function, among others. Currently, he operates the Fear of Music podcast and occasional event series, based in New York. For Mysteries, expect something further from the reaches of his techno persona, down a darker and surreal path. His new mix for the podcast certainly guides the way. http://mysteriesofthedeep.mx/kmli http://fearofmusic.org — - - — JOSHUE OTT New York-based visualist and software designer Joshue Ott creates cinematic visual improvisations, performed live and projected in large scale. Working from hand-drawn forms manipulated in real-time with superDraw, a software instrument of his own design, Ott composes evolving images that reside somewhere between minimalism, psychedelia, and Cagean chance, delivered with an inescapably human touch. Supple yet digital, ephemeral but instantly memorable, Ott renders sound into vision, yielding an immersive multi-sensory experience that is at once immediate and synergistic, a unique visual narrative born in the moment. Performing with musicians from all genres between classical and avant-electronica, Ott's visuals have been featured at Unsound festival NY, Biennial of the Americas, Mutek, Communikey, Plateaux festival (Poland), GAFFTA, Le Cube gallery (Paris), the Playgrounds Audiovisual Art Festival (Netherlands), and the Ars Electronica Animation Festival. He has performed with the American Composer's Orchestra at Carnegie Hall; with Son Lux at MASS MoCA; with Gina Gibney Dance at the Baryshnikov Arts Center; and frequently at venues throughout New York City, including Le Poisson Rouge, Roulette, and Galapagos. Ott is also the visual mastermind behind the hit iOS apps Thicket, snowDrift, Falling Stars, Pitch Painter, and the Variant series. http://intervalstudios.com
