Some weeks ago, the live forces of Detroit decorated Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson for their cultural contribution to the city. A deserved medal for early techno of which a carat or two ought to go to our guests today who, although they were not part of that first generation, arrived very shortly afterwards and contributed decisively to making things turn out as we know them to be. Armed with an arsenal of synthesisers, samplers and beatboxes, on their records (most of them on their 430 West label) and in their concerts (they never DJ), Octave One deploy the whole range of analogue arpeggios, staccato piano, luxuriant strings and futuristic grooves that have defined the Detroit sound. Hard funk and techno soul from the heart of the city, with the support of Miki Craven, a devoted pupil who will pay tribute to them with the kind of session they deserve.
