House-n-Home is a back-to-basics loft party with amazing talent,
a sound system that will make your head spin, cheap drinks, and
the kind of vibe we feel is sadly missing in the NYC electronic
music community at the moment. The first few House-N-Home parties
brought out a nice cross section of the house community, the
dancers scene, and the after-hours techno heads, and everyone
left happy. This time around, we're trying something different:
a daytime party with mimosas and bloody marys. It's something
we've been wanting to try for awhile, and Dixon's music is
perfectly suited to it, so why not?
Although he has many talents, Dixon's main priority from day one
of his music career was to be a great DJ. Early on, he mastered
the necessary skills to hold down residencies where he had to
keep the dancefloor moving all night long, week in and week out.
Eventually he met Atjazz and really hit it off with him and got a
position running Recreation Recordings, a Sonar Kollektiv
sub-label, and famously released the first track from Âme.
In 2005, Dixon founded the Inner City night at Weekend Club in
Berlin, which gave him the freedom to play exactly what he wanted
to play alongside like-minded guest DJs, and became the
inspiration for another Sonar Kollektiv sub-label, Innervisions.
Innervisions quickly became one of the biggest house music labels
in the world, with co-founders Âme's track "Rej" on the second
release becoming arguably the biggest track of the past decade.
Dixon''s profile as a DJ has risen significantly over the past few
years with the release of the "Body Language" mix CD on Get
Physical, a Resident Advisor podcast, and "The Grandfather
Paradox" mix (a collaboration with Âme and Henrik Schwartz
on Innervisions). His star will rise even further when he
releases another mix for Innervisions this month. Although he
rarely takes the front seat in the studio, Dixon has contributed
to many amazing recordings as well. He has remixed Atjazz, Fela
Kuti, Tokyo Black Star and Markus Worgull among others; is one
half of Wahoo; and has co-produced huge records with Âme
and Henrik Schwartz. When we came up with the idea of doing the
House-N-Home loft parties, we had a few DJs in mind who we
decided MUST play the party sooner or later. Sitting at the very
top of that list was Dixon, and when we found out he was coming
back to the States to play at WMC, we decided it was time to
scoop him up for a proper Brooklyn throwdown. Don't come too
late, as Dixon will be playing an extended set from 2pm to 6pm
before heading straight to the airport to catch his flight back
to Berlin.
