THE PERFECT CYN:
Portland’s The Perfect Cyn has been instigating trouble on Portland dance floors and beyond since 2002. Self-taught, she has built a reputation for bringing forward-thinking music to the people, without compromise.
A music freak since childhood, Cynthia learned classical music while being seduced by the unbridled energy in punk and underground music. There were many nights spent jamming out at home to WBMX-FM Chicago while she was too young to go shows. But the minute her parents let her out of the house, she started collecting music and seeing live bands. To this day, you can always count on hearing these influences in her sets, every single time.
So how did she get here? She decided to make the most of unexpected unemployment by teaching herself to DJ in 2002. She carried that hunger for years, becoming a driving force in the PDX techno and minimal scene in the early and mid 00’s. Her energy never stopped during this time, founding two influential groups: SisterPDX - the Portland Chapter of the Sister DJ Collective, and Sexy Robot Music - a small collective hell bent on bringing cutting edge dance music to the people. Later she helped create Alga-Rhythms, another local collective with the same objective. And From 2009 to 2012 she maintained multiple residencies including Curator and resident DJ at the longtime PDX electronic haunt SauceBox, countless performances at Groove Suite and sets at legendary DEMF and Decibel Festivals. From 2013 to 2016, Cyn represented Modern Ritual Events, continuing to break new sounds and debuting the Dragon Stage at What The Festival to a massive crowd of energy.
Today, The Perfect Cyn enjoys her free-agent status and supports the unique vision of many music crews. For 15 years, dancers have come to depend on her to bring heart shaking poly-rhythms and booty-rattling bass to every set she plays. She works on original productions in her spare time and maintains status as a founder of the still developing Portland dance music community. Never afraid to push the envelope, she continues to bring a unique, sensuous sound to every genre-defying set, always sealed with her signature smile :)
