  • Kim Ann Foxman It’s her that drives us wild. The line comes from her own voice, singing “It’s You That Drives Me Wild” on last year’s EP that felt pretty much like a big confirmation that Kim has a natural ability for all things House Music. In the beginning, it was Hawaii, then San Francisco, later on New York, eventually Europa. In the beginning it was having a music duo, then collaborating with Andy Butler and being a full time Hercules And Love Affair member, and then… stardom as a DJ on her own. Kim Ann Fixman worries that there aren’t enough “freaks” in the world anymore. And by freak she means someone who is unique, who isn’t afraid to express themselves, who has a strong character and doesn’t care what society will think about it. And we believe the music she plays is a perfect embodiment of these concepts, with a record bag well shaped by the Golden Gate bridge city, absorbing and giving back a kind of crazy energy that contains House, Techno, Acid, Breakbeat, and other genres that raves have spawned and refuse to be defined by words. Also, let’s not forget her hidden gems, records she’s proud of finding and playing and that end up setting every (good) DJ apart. Because going out and listening to the same top 10 records a bunch of other DJs are playing is simply boring, you dig? And this will be an opportunity to discover tunes that will make you dance in a way that you’ll activate muscles you forgot you had. For Kim, every record chosen and played has a purpose, and she refuses to play “fillers”, so don’t forget to come early so as not to miss anything. Big rewards await those who arrive early and leave last – even if it’s just the guarantee that at least, you’ll be driven wild! Virginia It seems that even if she wanted to, it’d be hard to escape a future in music, when you have a mother who’s a singer, a brother who’s a sound engineer and a father who’d also be around recording studios. But Virginia didn’t have a neat, easy, straightforward career from family music sessions all the way to Ostgut Ton. She almost quit electronic music when, after having voiced a few popular hits in the more “commercial” side of things, she found herself disenchanted with her DJ gigs in the late 00s. It just so happened that she had wonderful records, but wouldn’t find places where they’d work. Luckily, she crossed paths with Steffi and found them again, back on believing. With confidence and her audience’s support, she got back on the right places and found a Panoramabar residency that has been ongoing for more than half a dozen years – honing her skills behind the decks and accumulating extraordinary moments and experience, that key factor in turning record collectors into the facilitators of memorable night. When she feels like it, she’ll use the microphone love to sing over melodies and beats from her record collection, one that comprises House from the Chicago or Detroit side of things, Funk, Disco or Techno. And speaking of Techno, she’s a bit bored of Techno lost in cold repetition, not showing any soul. That same soul that she without a doubt possesses and seems to bind her to all her musical choices. In this Saturday in September, the right choice is obvious: for a few hours, let us hand ourselves over (also) to Virigina. - Inês Duarte
