Oval Space Music hosts the most revered figure in the history of house music on Sunday 3rd December: Mr Fingers, aka Gherkin Jerks, aka the great Larry Heard, who will play an extended live performance. He’s joined by Panorama Bar resident Tama Sumo, and her partner & fellow house music aficionado Lakuti, who will play an extended b2b.
There’s little left to say about Larry Heard. A bona fide dance music institution, Larry is the most prolific producer to emerge from Chicago’s house music 2nd wave in the late 1980s. Together with close friends Robert Owens and Ron Wilson, he formed Fingers Inc., whose seminal 1988 double album ‘Another Side’ remains an ever-present record on dark, steamy dancefloors all over the world. But Larry Heard is not just a maker of rich, sensual house music. As Disco-D, he made spiky 4/4 music that predicted the UK tech house boom ten years later. His productions with Harry Dennis as The It dealt in loose, loopy house that Ron Hardy would be proud of, while his squelchy acid jams as Gherkin Jerks remain Holy Grail records to this day. Quite simply, Larry Heard is the greatest house producer of all time, and someone we are deeply proud to host for a special Sunday evening live performance.
He’s joined by nu-skool house music savants Tama Sumo and Lakuti. Few share the principles of their home club quite like Panorama Bar resident Tama Sumo - in her broad musical aesthetic, her devotion to the DJing craft, and her warm, affable presence. One of queer dance culture’s most important figures and deepest diggers, Kerstin has joined us twice before at Oval Space, tearing the roof off each time. Her partner Lakuti is also no stranger to Bethnal Green, having played at Oval and Pickle five times before. Together with Tama Sumo, she is behind two of Europe’s premier house music soirées: Finest Friday, at their dearly beloved Panorama Bar, and Your Love, a regular London party that debuted at Dance Tunnel, before moving to Bloc.
