- The planets have aligned for the second coming of Hypnoteque, a new wave of bi-monthly deejay services for inquisitive rimbomboys and girls. Entering the spotlight this month are two of Sydney’s highest fliers, Hubert & Jackson, who first wooed us in this form with their improvised performance at Goodgod’s Soft Future Piano Bar at the Sydney Opera House. When Hubert sticks a “Clarke Jr” onto the end of his name, he releases tasty house on labels like 100% Silk and Wolf Music. If it’s with Sydney expat Jon Watts on Hugh’s own Outer Time Inner Space imprint, you’d better expect some junglist undertones. Regardless of the pseudonym, it’s certain he’s your man for beers and hoops and we’re delighted to welcome him to the Hypnoteque. Your boi Jackson is often joined by a “Freda &” for down-tempo house productions and compelling live shows. He puts out this music through his own label Moonshoe and spends some time behind the counter of local disc outlet Network Connection Records. More recently, he’s scored a segment showcasing new local productions on Simon Caldwell’s fabled Monday Sunset show.
