  • S U R V I V E and GAS, though they come from entirely different backgrounds, are both masters of electronic music drama—don't miss what should be a heavy night for the second part of Unsound Toronto.
  • Taking a year off within the framework of Luminato itself, Unsound is back with two special seated weekend events around Halloween at The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts. The landmark Toronto theatre will host innovative film and TV scores, ambient soundscapes, dance - and even haunting Slavic sounds. All are Canadian exclusives for 2017. These Toronto shows are part of a series of autumn Unsound events around the world that will follow Unsound’s flagship festival in Krakow. They include Unsound Adelaide in Australia and a one-day event in London at the Barbican. Halloween Hangover on November 3rd sees Emmy-winning composers of the score for the hit Netflix TV show STRANGER THINGS presenting sections of their evocative synth score live – hot on the heels of the release of the second season. KYLE DIXON and MICHAEL STEIN – of the band S U R V I V E - first presented the music live at Unsound Krakow in 2016, with a specially commissioned lighting installation by German visual artist MFO that will also be part of the Toronto show, with performance by Theresa Baumgartner. The November 3rd bill also features the Toronto debut of GAS, the legendary project of Kompakt Records head WOLFGANG VOIGT. Inspired by dark forests of Germany, the unsettling and symphonic music of GAS has become an ambient touchstone. This A/V show follows the acclaimed release of the first record by GAS in 17 years, Narkopop. Last but not least, Polish band KSIĘŻYC open on November 3, highlighting Unsound’s geographical roots. With five members playing an array of instruments, Księżyc draws on ancient Slavic songs, minimalism and experimentation to create mysterious, haunting music. Both events are present by Unsound, Toronto Civic Theatres and Luminato. The event on November 3 is presented in partnership with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Toronto and the Polish Cultural Institute New York.
