Valentin Stip [ Montreal, QC :: Booma / Other People]
Valentin Stip was born in Paris, France. There he started playing piano when he was seven and continued in the classical music wave, picking up guitar on the way.
After moving to Montreal for school, Stip began to miss his roots. It was then that he started playing around with the musical abilities of his computer, and has been producing computer music since.
You may be familiar with his work on the reputable label, Other People, with the standout full length, 'Sigh'. Since then his time in Montreal found him in like the minded company of dance floor focused producers to push the boundaries of the genre and together they founded the label, Booma. It is through this platform that we found Stip, his sounds within the labe are what we are looking foward to moving to.
Most recently you could find Stip in Berlin as he explored various dance floors and record stores around the city. The past few years have been spent under a new light of electronic music, an evolution from the left field classics he left us with. Although this won't be Stip's first time in Colorado, nobody has seen him perform quite like this.
Revlux [ Montreal, QC :: Booma / Cosmic Tones ]
Imagined as an ironic brand, revlux works the edges of techno, pop production, jungle and commercial rave in a range of tempos – subverting and celebrating electronic musical tropes while giving them fresh and precocious new packaging.
A San Franciscan laying down new roots in Montréal, Ratowsky began his journey into electronic music as a techno and house DJ, nestling into the underground scene as co-founder of the label and promoter gang Booma Collective in 2009. His first release came out on Booma, with other material appearing on compilations, including a high-profile remix for Nicolas Jaar's Other People label. Stylistically, his sets and productions have been free range — techno, house, beats from all corners, electroacoustic, ambient and pop. Ratowsky presents revlux as a multinational lifestyle brand of unified but separate components, "with products and accessories for the entire family," only one of them musical. Woozy, psychedelic melodies, trance, decelerated jungle and taut and dexterous production coalesce into a bizarre amalgam of sound, effortlessly straddling the commercial and the experimental.
Alex Whittier [ Denver, CO :: Nocturnal / CELE ]
A young up-and-comer on the Denver DJ circuit, Whittier has quickly carved out a niche for himself in the Mile High. As the lead curator for Nocturnal, he has created a platform for bleeding-edge techno and house, while his work with CELE helps bridge the divide between the dance floor and more esoteric sonic aesthetics. Nocturnal's monthly residency at The Black Box is always a pleasure for those interested in exploring the shadowy fringes of club music while the sporadic after parties delve deeper into exploring the dance floor.
