  • Jelgava (pronounced [jælɡava]; German: Mitau) is a city in central Latvia about 41 kilometres (25 miles) southwest of Riga with about 63,000 inhabitants. It is the largest town in the region of Zemgale (Semigalia). Jelgava was the capital of the united Duchy of Courland and Semigallia (1578-1795) and the administrative centre of the Courland Governorate (1795-1918). Jūrmala (Latvian pronunciation: [juːrmala]; means literally the "seaside"; German: Riga-Strand, Baltische Riviera) is a city in Latvia, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) west of Riga. Jūrmala is a resort town stretching 32 km (20 miles) and sandwiched between the Gulf of Riga and the Lielupe River. It has a 33 km (21 miles) stretch of white-sand beach, and a population of 56,646, making it the fifth largest city in Latvia. On Friday, December 8 we meet two people that to some extent have shaped the sound of Riga yet both of them hail from different Latvian cities. Uppfade from Jelgava has been producing dance music for ages, has had his records played by luminaries of the pantheon of DJ culture and himself travelled to various places – the island of Ibiza is no exception. Kaspar Kondrat from Jūrmala on the other hand is one of those disc jockeys that is not only great at the craft but also has a knack for the promotion of said culture – gathering others around him for huge raves, boat parties, warehouse parties and now being a part of the Kaņepes Kultūras centrs community and Festivāls Komēta. If you press “Going” and get to the club door until 1AM you get in for 3€ only! After that – it's 5€.
