CO-OP PRESENTS VINCENZO FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN SYDNEY ACROSS 2 LEVELS OF THE CIVIC
FIRST RELEASE TICKETS SOLD OUT
CO-OP is the brainchild (infant sized brain comparisons may be reasonable in this case) of the collectives behind Sydney parties A Disco Stole My Baby and Better Days. They have come together to instigate a series of small but perfectly formed underground events showcasing some of the finest international talent in cool venues with great sound. The aim is to bring likeminded lovers of really quite good deep Disco and even deeper House together to enjoy a house party atmosphere in someone else’s abode (so as to avoid the inevitable post-party clean up).
Following May’s inaugural shakedown, as headlined by electronic House dons Motorcitysoul out of Germany and the UK’s re-edit and future Disco royalty The Revenge, the CO-OPerative is poised to get busy once more for an evening of much needed winter warmth, this time starring another Deutschland exponent, Vincenzo. Best known for his numerous original productions and remixes for scene-leading labels such as Dessous, Pokerflat, Freerange and Mobilee, he is a major talent both in the studio and the booth, moving with ease between the deeper shades of club music in a way few can.
With this Berlin resident, who has never appeared in Sydney or Australia before, locked in to play a full 5 hour set for CO-OP in one of the city’s favourite club rooms, The Civic’s Underground, dancers can expect a master class in the dark art of DJing, with Vincenzo journeying from digital Disco through pitched down House to the deepest Techno-tinged sounds and beyond. Throw in a few well deserved toilet stops for Mr Ragone (as he’s likely known to his bank manager) and a system that enough good things have been said about by others for CO-OP to have to bother, and you can rest assured the headlining half of August’s proposition is in safe hands.
The party’s second room, in the form of The Civic’s Saloon Bar, will feature the full compliment of CO-OP DJs (distilled from the Better Days and A Disco Stole My Baby crews) doing their best to bring the dark, the light, the loose and the tight from their respective boxes, wallets or whatever other musical storage devices they may have picked up in K-Mart. Throw in some underground (and underused) classics and the installation of a few choice ‘pieces’ to give the ground floor space a sonic kick in the arse and it should be, well, sweaty.
As per last time we’ll be aiming to ensure that we bring the party in a manner that means you don’t have to unwillingly rub body parts with too many randoms just to line our pockets, and so its with a reasonable amount of confidence that we suggest that the 1st August party will sell out. We will hold a limited number of tickets back on the door but only the foolish or financially impaired would chance their entry via this route.
VINCENZO (DESSOUS / POKERFLAT / GERMANY)
Vincenzo (Ragone) was given his first big break as a DJ by Pokerflat legend Steve Bug in his home city of Hamburg in the mid 90’s, around the time he also delivered his first production – a single on the Raw Elements label. After a stint in NYC he issued his first solo album ‘1-800 Vincenzo’ on Bug’s Dessous imprint, an effort which propelled him to international acclaim with its impeccable deep electronic Disco and House flavours. His second album ‘Welcome To Zanarkland’ dropped in 2002 and he has since worked on collaborations with talent including Phonique, Steve Bug and DJ Rasoul. With an ever growing library of original tracks and remixes for scene leading labels including Dessous, Pokerflat, Freerange, Mobilee, !K7, NRK, Urbantourqe and Liebe Detail to his name, Vincenzo’s profile continues to grow internationally. He relocated to Berlin in 2007 and currently balances DJ appearances around Europe and further afield with his studio commitments.
