Patterns Curated by Shanti Celeste with Hodge & Ciel - Peach Party #1

  • RA PICK
  • Shanti Celeste is curating four parties at Patterns this year. For this first one, she picks rising talent Ciel (making her Brighton debut) and Bristol techno adventurer Hodge.
  • After eight memorable ‘Curated by’ dates with Bradley Zero and Avalon Emerson this year, in 2018 we hand the reins to Shanti Celeste and Mr Bongo, who’ll be curating four and two events respectively. Shanti’s 'Curated by' series will see us blur the boundaries between techno, house, reggae, soul and disco, creating a welcoming rave environment for all. Named ‘Peach Party’, the four parties will see her take inspiration from her very own ‘Peach Discs’ label, inviting artists, friends and Brighton selectors to curate the sound and vibe on each date. From tweaks to the lighting to collaborating with local creatives, record shop in-store sessions to DJ/production workshops, we’ll be taking the series in and out of the club context on each occasion. As an artist, Shanti Celeste continues to nurture her craft with deft movements, asserting her label as a marker for top-drawer electronic music with standout releases from the likes of Chekov, Fred and Ciel. On top of that 2017 saw a split EP with Call Super for Dekmantel, the phenomenal ‘Make Time’ 12″ for Idle Hands and a hectic schedule of high profile gigs from The Warehouse Project to De School, Hope Works to Panorama Bar. For her first first date here with us she invites Hodge. Heavily influenced by elements of soundsystem music, Jake has gone on to carve himself a reputation as one of the most diverse artists about. From releasing ear rattling techno through the likes of Berceuse Heroique, Hemlock and Livity Sound to ambient sounds through No Corner, Making a Brighton debut we have Ciel, born Cindy Li, a producer, DJ, promoter, and radio programmer based out of Toronto, Canada. She currently runs two of the country’s most forward thinking party series (It’s Not U It’s Me and Work in Progress) and hosts a femme & queer - prioritizing radio show each month on n10. Last but not least club resident and The Middle Floor record dealer Mehtola will be warming up the room a treat before all of the above. - - - For the first event we’ll be hosting a CDR workshop in conjunction with the ‘Last Dance’ programme at Lighthouse, an arts and culture agency producing, supporting and presenting new art, film, music, design and games. Both Hodge and Shanti Celeste will be deconstructing their own productions followed by a Q&A, with local producers getting a chance to play their own tracks at the end. Keep your eyes peeled on the event for further details in the new year.
