Play On presents another boundary pushing series: be the first in Australia to hear new contemporary classical pieces alongside concert hall masterpieces. Then challenge your expectations with Australia’s most esteemed electronic artists serving up ambitious live electronic and DJ sets.
Set One
Beginning with music composed over four hundred years ago and ending with a
string quartet that is less than two years old, this program represents everything
there is to love about classical music. First up the Play On Collective perform a
couple of jewels from the early English repertory – dating from the Renaissance and
Baroque periods. Touching base with Beethoven via his iconic Grosse Fuge (written
in 1825), the real star of this show is the String Quartet No. 1 by Finnish composer/
pianist/ conductor Olli Mustonen – which Play On has secured for its Australian
premiere at this performance!
Assembled to play this breathtaking program is a cast of exceptional young
Australian artists who rank amongst the world’s best.

Set Two: Noise In My Head
Noise In My Head is a freeform sonic excursion piloted by Michael Kucyk. From early beginnings as a long-running cult radio show on Melbourne’s 3RRR FM, it has become a vital nexus in the Australia music scene, and now the identity expands as a DJ, two record labels, a publishing entity and party series.
A proud advocate of our burgeoning Australian scene and the rising artists within
them, NIMH has brought together producers, DJs, label heads, compilation selectors and record collectors from all over the world through his radio show which now airs on acclaimed online institution NTS.
