Self-proclaimed broadcaster of “violent mechanisms of rhythm”, Sombra presents itself as a safe lair for adepts of the grimiest and bleakest sides of techno, drone and industrial. Even though they prefer the music and the accompanying aesthetic to speak for them, it is however quite perceptible that this is a group of conspirators who understand that not only shadows are all around us, the light is too, as inseparable partners that they are.
When the light is changed, so the shadow is transformed. And so, paradoxically, what tonight’s guests dedicate themselves to, is shedding light on lesser seen musical forms, thus generating new shapes of darkness. This game of ‘chiaro-scuro’ has been ruled since 2014 by João Ervedosa e Pedro Rocha, Shcuro and Peterr, respectively. Stealthily, they have enlisted names from within and beyond frontiers to their order of obscurity, like Madalba, Manni Dee and Paul Mac, or Enkō, Cindy and ViL, among others, spread out on 3 vinyl releases and a recently released tape compilation, celebrating their 4th year.
Main characters of this night are, as they should be, Shcuro and Peterr, who have invited Positive Centre, that is, british expatriate in Portugal, Mike Jefford, Sombra’s most recente conspirator, who exhibits a CV with releases on Lucy’s Stroboscopic Artefacts and Sigha’s Our Circula Sound. Dystopia, surrealism and power, em dissonant harmony, breaching new cracks on Lux’s dancefloor. After all, it is through the cracks that the light can penetrate the dark.
