All door proceeds benefit DC nonprofit HIPS (www.hips.org) Honey Soundsystem: Honey Soundsystem is a collective of disc jockeys, musicians, performers and designers. Initially conceived by Ken Woodard and Jacob Sperber in January 2006, after seeing gaps in San Francisco nightlife. Inspired by pivotal gay underground parties of the past, they saw an opportunity to take their nights in a new direction from what was currently being presented musically in mainstream gay culture. Over the last decade the crew has been comprised of various members sharing a similar vision. Presently the roster includes Jacob Sperber, Jason Kendig, and Robert Yang while some members have moved on to new projects. In 2008 they launched a weekly Sunday night party that would run for five years, before ending in October 2013. Their residency in SF hosted DJ’s from around the world, including DJ Sprinkles, Todd Terje, Prosumer, Boris, Steffi, Horse Meat Disco, Discodromo, Eric Duncan, Derek Plaslaiko, Maurice Fulton, Kink, Ivan Smagghe, Traxx, Silent Servant, Daniel Wang, Hunee, Optimo, Derrick Carter, Portable, Hard Ton, Tim Sweeney, Kim Ann Foxman, Mr. Ties, Honey Dijon, Steve Fabus, Bobby Viteritti, and Mike Servito. By the time the Sunday events ended, the crew went on to throw a steady stream of larger, one-off parties and the occasional underground. The crew is known to build massive, elaborate, party-specific installations to enhance their late-night soirees. OCTO OCTA: Musically, Honey has embarked on many ventures to transform the community of the queer dance underground. The crew resurrected the lost gay porn soundtracks of San Francisco’s Hi-NRG producer Patrick Cowley. They established a record label Honey Soundsystem Records to release music from their favorite underground producers like Justin Cudmore, Mike Servito, Beesmunt Soundsystem and 2017’s breakout DJ/producer Octo Octa. They travel as a crew and as solo artists to perform critically acclaimed sets in the North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Honey have carved out their place in dance music history and continually connect the past with the future. As the crew continue to build their reputation at home and overseas, they find new ways to share their passion for the music they love. It shouldn’t be surprising that Brooklyn-based producer Octo Octa (née Maya Bouldry-Morrison) had already logged tireless years as a fringe IDM artist and sound designer before her debut EP Let Me See You lasso’d a mighty wave of international house-heads to the dance-floor and helped push underground house label 100% Silk onto everyone’s radar in 2011. Seven records later, which include a misty deep-house slow-burner in the Where Did You Go/Through The Haze 12″ for Chicago-based, Smartbar DJ Steve Mizek’s Argot imprint and the soaringly luxurious More Times EP for German powerhouse Running Back, Bouldry-Morrison’s finely-tuned marriage of exquisite compositional flare, meticulously-sculpted sonics, and primal dance-floor functionality has earned her a Red Bull Music Academy residency in Manhattan, which found the producer working closely with Harald Bjork and Throwing Snow, as well as tours across the world that included coveted gigs at Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Frankfurt’s Live At Robert Johnson, and Barcelona’s Sonar Festival. Fresh off of having SPIN Magazine herald percussive floor-burner “Cause I Love You” as one of the 50 Best Dance Songs Of 2014, Octo Octa currently has forthcomiing coming 12″s prepped for DeepBlak and Stay Underground It Pays and is preparing for another year of pushing her unique sonic perspective and shimmering club-ready earworms through soundsystems across the world. OUTPUTMESSAGE: Outputmessage is D.C.-based electronic music artist Bernard Farley. A math whiz by day (he devises math content for standardized tests as a test developer for American Institutes for Research), Farley channels his technical mind into his creative work as singer, producer, and DJ. In 2014, he released The Infinite Void, a spacious full-length concept album that explores the cosmos through a story arc of techno, house and pop. D.C Music Download has called The Infinite Void one of the best electronic albums of the year. No stranger to producing stand-out dance music, Farley is also a member of indie-dance group Volta Bureau whose song, "Alley Cat" topped the Beatport indie-dance chart for several weeks.
