Asylum 6th Birthday

  • For the last 6 years Asylum has been packing Clubs, Basements, Railway-arches, Warehouses, Strip-clubs and Sun-terraces, and created a truly unique atmosphere along the way. Starting in humble beginning Asylum has always been about three simple things, the people, the atmosphere and the of course the music. Asylum is one of the few clubs to be fortunate enough to have a sincerely lively, exciting and mixed crowd. Perhaps due to the organic nature that the club has grown it has quickly developed in to a major player on the circuit and the crowd creates a positively electric atmosphere, unmatched by most. At home in the now legendary Mint Club in Leeds, Asylum has played host to artists as varied as Carl Craig, Jazzy Jeff, Danny Krivit, Henrik Schwarz, Luciano, Giles Peterson, Kerri Chandler, Theo Parrish, Maurice Fulton, Prins Thomas, Metro Area, Greg Wilson, Clive Henry and anyone else you care to shake a stick at. Asylum has for the last 6 years been at the forefront of dance music and booked accordingly. Never ones to disappoint or do as expected, Asylum is a melting pot of music, mixing genres perfectly to create an eclectic potent concoction suitable for dancers of all walks of life, which is where Asylum really comes into its own. Asylum finds its home at the now legendary Mint Club in Leeds. After recent 500k refurbishments the club is fully equipped with a state of the art Funktion 1 sound system and an LED panel roof not too dissimilar to that in the Watergate club in Berlin. The Mint club sits nicely in Leeds' rich and illustrious history of clubbing and house music and is the perfect venue for Asylum. Now for Asylum’s coming of age party, her 6th Birthday; and what a line-up she has in stall for you. Headlining is none other than Germany’s Motor City Drum Ensemble; fairly new to the scene this cat has had releases on formidable labels such as Sonar Kollective, Compost and 2020 Vision. Hailing from the Mecca of electronic music right now, Danilo Plessow of MCDE perfectly crafts a unique blend of soul infused House and Techno. This guest is part of the new school and another debut performance in Leeds by for the dance music tastemakers; Asylum. Next up is the Unabombers, easily considered as the very reason Asylum was born. Not so long ago, a very special club lived. A club, which like Asylum, was about a feeling, an atmosphere and music which policy, which said ‘fuck you’ to every pretentious ‘muso’ in the land. The Unambombers from the legendary, almost mythical Electric Chair headline this very special birthday special celebration. Expect the unexpected, expect music of highest calibre; these guys now how to rock a basement. On residentials are PBR Streetgang, Negghead and Andy Whitaker. PBR Streetgang consisting of Bonar Bradbury and Asylum founding father Tom Thorpe have spent the summer rocking the world best festivals and clubs; from Glastonbury to Space Ibiza with there unique blend of Disco, House and Techno. Negghead aka Dan Ward resides at Wax On Records with his debut album dropping soon, whilst Andy Whitaker is label manager at none other than 2020 Vision. Do not miss this one, it is going to be a Birthday to remember; Unabomber, Motor City Drum Ensemble, PBR Streetgang, Negghead and Andy Whitaker. Now that’s what I call music.
