  • Tama Sumo and Lakuti invite the Chicago house don Boo Williams and the rising duo Nu Guinea for a night of world-class house, disco and more.
Thanks to all that ventured out and made the night one to remember. Our next guests are Chicago legend Boo Williams and the exciting, relatively new duo out of Naples, Nu Guinea. The legend that is Boo Williams first stepped up to the turntables and started DJing in 1981, heavily influenced by Ron Hardy. Besides his influence from the originators of the scene, Boo is being cited as part of the second wave of producers leading the Windy City's movement in the heat of the mid to late nineties along the likes of Gemini, Derrick Carter, Paul Johnson and most fundamentally Glenn Underground. It was Glenn after all that first got him into producing after meeting at the formative parties in Chicago hosted by Lil' Louis way back, when he was harbouring a historical rave culture and just when Boo was starting to build a reputation for himself. Hooking up with Green Velvet aka Curtis Jones’ much celebrated Relief Records in the mid 90s, the hard, jackin’ sub-label of Cajual, and later releasing on the Dutch label Djax, 1996 saw Boo produce his seminal album with the bouncy house of ‘Home Town Chicago’, the first in a series of reissues by Anotherday Records. Boo has since gone on to record for reputable imprints such a Strictly Jaz Unit, Relief Records, Nite Life, Peacefrog, Residual, Rush Hour and many more. He continues bringing some heavy cuts via Strictly Jaz Unit Muzic and many more. Nu Guinea will be playing Panorama Bar for the first time. The Naples-formed, Berlin-based duo is part of the burgeoning Naples scene, formed around labels such as Early Sounds and Periodica Records, firmly associated with the likes of The Mystic Jungle Tribe, Whodamammy and others. Their self-titled debut EP was released in October 2014 on Early Sounds, followed by the ‘World’ EP on Tartelet, before eventually releasing the album ‘The Tony Allen Experiments’. This album saw Comet giving the duo creative license to reshape some of the legendary Fela Kuti’s drummer Tony Allen’s original works, with the result being this great album. Nu Guinea have gone on to launching their own label Ng records last year with a 7” titled Amore. They have recently released yet another gorgeous album, Nuova Napoli. The duo will be playing records as well as live keys tonight. As usual we will be rounding off the night’s musical proceedings with DJ sets ourselves. The summer is here, come celebrate the season with us, make new friends, celebrate love and life with all of us. Much love, Lerato & Kerstin (Lakuti & Tama Sumo)
