  • An Ethiopian and Eritrean New Year Celebration. Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, translates as “New Flower” in the language of Amharic and also symbolises new beginnings for Ethiopia and Eritrea as they reconcile their political differences. Analogue Foundation team up with Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne, a London based artist of Ethiopian heritage to host a ‘one off’ special event celebrating the Ethiopian and Eritrean New Year and their immensely rich culture. A Sunday hangout at Giant Steps with live music from KM Ethiopian Music Group, a trio consisting of vocals, Krar and Masenko players and a specially curated performance from Tom Skinner (Mulatu Astatke/Sons of Kemet). Throughout the day there will also be vinyl and cassette tape sets from Olmo & Rahel, DJ Yonatan of Sheba Sounds and Scott Albon of Eat Ethio who will take us on a journey of Ethio Jazz, folk and traditional East African music. The dance collective Dan Kira will transport us to the underground club scene of Addis with an uplifting and dynamic traditional tribal style dance performance. We also welcome Helina Tesega and Scott Albon of Eat Ethio to their first London food pop up. Eat Ethio, previously based in Hong Kong and Shanghai, have garnered critical acclaim for their beautifully curated supper clubs and contemporary style. They also bring with them a vast collection of rare Ethio Jazz records and a fine menu of Ethiopian food and coffee.
