<b>LONDON ELEKTRICITY feat TONY COLEMAN & MC WREC (Hospital Records)</b>
The man they call London Elektricity has been investing a lot of labour and love into his live band of the same name. 2003’s LP “Billion Dollar Gravy” has been followed up with an arguably more rounded album “Power Ballads” from which the single ‘The Strangest Secret’ is receiving a good ol’ bash on Triple J right now. We caught a Dj set in NYC 6 months ago and have been gagging for a 33&1/3 booking out of this guy ever since.
<b>BLIM</b>
It’s a long way to the top in the break beat world and fortunately for us, there’s been lots of stops along the way for one Gervase Cooke who has impressed us more and more with each new visit to Melbourne. The former ‘lost boy’ has found his voice in the form of rapping and singing on some of his new productions for his forthcoming album “Boy Meets Monkey”. The next couple of months will see him bombing round the Uk and Europe and tying up his new album before making the hemispherical switch for a right old Ozzy easter.
<b>TREVA WHATEVA (Ninja Tune)</b>
It’s true. We only booked him for 33&1/3 because we like his name. It’s rad. Then we listened to his debut album from Ninja Tune and his weekly Hot Pot radio show with Mr Scruff and realised his approach to things is just as loose but not nearly as complacent as his name might suggest. Ideal for the laidback hip heads on the mezzanine. Beatific.
<b>SPACE DJZ – Jamie Bismire & Ben Long (Eclectic Set)</b>
Their Melbourne techno sets of the late 90’s are that of legend, and in an industry of increasing complacency these guys really have mixing skills worth gawking at. One of the world’s longest standing DJ partnerships will be closing the event with an eclectic mix of hip hop, electro, and unnamed genres. Four decks, two DJ’s and a bag of beats. Giddy’up.
<b>ZINC (Bingo Beats) & MC VERSE</b>
A bluish-white, lustrous metallic element that is brittle at room temperature but malleable with heating ? There seems to be some mystery surrounding the origin of his name but what we are clear about is that the stand out drum & bass set of 2005 for us was Zinc at the Prince. His precision mixing and nifty track selection culminated in a total floor frenzy and a years worth of email requests to bring him back. Musically mental production work and manically, solid grooves.
<b>UBERZONE – LIVE</b>
One of the few truly live break beat performers, Uberzone was the highlight of 33&1/3 Good Friday 2004 event and since then breaks fans have been begging for another session from the man the simply call Q. His early singles, "Botz" and "The Freaks", were critically acclaimed club tracks that established Q as one of the leading American producers of break beat music.
