  • DJ Sabine's work focuses on the exposure and pleasures of African diasporic music. Brooklyn Mecca, Cumbancha, and Oyasound are a few of her creative projects. Over the years, DJ Sabine's mainstay and cultivation has been the monthly event Brooklyn Mecca which has been coined the home of "Grassroots Dance Culture". Sabine worked for Ocha Records label as a Brand Marketing Director/Producer and Bembe NYC Party resident DJ. Today, she is the resident DJ for US & Cuba party Cumbancha featuring African inspired rhythms of House, Soul, Latin music and more. Oyasound Ep is currently in the works. Dj Sabine spins Global Soul: House, Afrotech, Afrobeat, Haitian Roots and other diasporic tunes. She's had the great opportunity to spin nationally in the US in NYC, Atlanta, St. Louis, Memphis, Chicago, Omaha, Boston, New Orleans, Miami, LA/Oakland, NJ, Washington DC, Dallas, Denver and internationally in Canada, Senegal, Haiti, Cuba, London, Paris, & Mexico. She sits on several panel discussions, DJs, and curates showcases for the well renown Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), highlighting the power of spirituality in the arts and has been honored as an emerging artist at the 27th Annual Women of Power Conference 2014: The Art of Being a Woman. Sabine made the Most Respected House DJ's List of 2014 by MediaServiceNyc for recognized innovative djs. In June 2014, Sabine produced her 1st installment of her project Lakay Se Lakay: Home Is Home a Haitian electronic artists conversation series & No Passport (NYC Edition) party in conjunction with Haiti Cultural Exchange's 1st NYC Haitian Arts & Culture festival Selebrayson!. Since, Sabine produced her 2nd installment as a full-day conference in partnership with The New School in 2015 and the 3rd as a visual/sonic installment for HCX's 2016 Lakou Nou Fellowship. Sabine was also the featured Dj for the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art's 50th Anniversary. Sabine ultimately seeks to create new scholarship through the African and Haitian diasporic lens of music, culture and spirituality. More info: www.oyasound.com Liza Jessie Peterson is a renowned actress, poet, playwright, author, educator and youth advocate who has been steadfast in her commitment to incarcerated populations both professionally and artistically for over two decades. She was recently featured in Ava DuVernay’s Emmy award winning documentary The 13th (Netflicks) and was a consultant on Bill Moyers documentary RIKERS (PBS). She is author of ALL DAY; A Year of Love and Survival Teaching Incarcerated Kids at Rikers Island, which is available on-line and in bookstores now. Liza has written several plays, including her one woman show-tour de force, The Peculiar Patriot, which had a sold out premiere run at The National Black Theatre and where she performed excerpts of it in over 35 penitentiaries across the country. The play was recently awarded a generous grant from Agnes Gund’s Art for Justice Fund and she will be touring it nationally 2018-2019. Liza is currently developing several other TV and theater projects including a play based on her book ALL DAY. Deep Space is the legendary party in NYC. Awarded many times as the “best party in New York City,” with “best resident dj” François K., Deep Space is now a monthly party, Wednesdays at club Output in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. For 13 years Deep Space ran as a weekly party at Cielo. Known as an adventure into future dub, spacey vibes, and abstract grooves, Deep Space features dj’s, musicians, dancers and poets who represent a breathtaking range of styles celebrating dub’s impact on so many forms of art. The party encourages the creative use of technology in the mixing booth and on stage. Dj’s are invited to play signature “Deep Space sets” which are notably eclectic, spacey, and imaginative, while drawing dancers onto the club’s floor. François K. is revered as the co-creator of New York City’s legendary dance party Body&SOUL. He tours worldwide for not only his soulful house dj sets, but also for his techno and dub mixes. Over the years he performed at Studio 54, Paradise Garage, The Loft, Ministry of Sound, Sound Factory Bar, Twilo, Roxy and Club Yellow in Japan, to name a few. In great demand, François has gone into the studio to produce/remix recordings by Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Jimmy Cliff, Underworld, Eurythmics, Bunny Wailer, U2, Ashford & Simpson with Maya Angelou, the Smiths, Dido, Finley Quaye, Diana Ross, The Cure, Mick Jagger, Fishbone, Talvin Singh, D Train, Erasure, Yazoo, Black Uhuru, Thomas Dolby, and Jah Wobble. In 2005 François was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame. In 2016 Mixmag recognized François K. as one of the inventors of the remix as we know it. Since the party’s launch in April 2003, Deep Space has remained passionately loyal to supporting the careers, comebacks and specialty side-projects of hundreds of artists. Deep Space was named “Best Party 2004” in Time Out New York. Deep Space was nominated for “Best Party,” at the Club World Awards 2006 and 2007. New York Magazine featured Deep Space as the “Best of New York 2006.” In 2013 Do Androids Dance lauded Deep Space as one of “The 10 Best Club Nights in the US.” François K. won “Resident Dj of the Year” by the 2015 Nightclub and Bar Awards. Time Out New York named Deep Space a “top 20 parties in NYC right now” in 2015.
