Resident Advisor, the leading online electronic music and culture resource is teaming up with the leading electronic music and arts festival in the Balkans, Dis-patch in Belgrade (Serbia), for a co-presentation of a very special night entitled TEN
Back in 1999, Relja Bobic and Goran Simonoski started a weekly live radio show on the airwaves of Belgrade's B 92 independent radio station. Ten years down the line, the BGYSS collective has an impressive resume of past activities: the radio show broadcasted weekly for ten years, a DJ team which has performed extensively in Belgrade, the region and around Europe, promotion of numerous parties and event series with premiere appearances of players from the international scene, a disbanded electric-jazz music project of the same name which toured Europe extensively 2003-2006 and, ultimately, in 2002 the seed of Dis-patch festival was planted - a unique chance for the local audiences for a first-hand live experience of cutting-edge sounds, live performances, exclusive projects, workshops and beyond. The festival itself has come a long way since its premiere edition in 2002, extending its program with each new edition and its reach towards audiences in the region and beyond.
Many styles have been premiered on Serbian airwaves via their radio broadcast, specially the material from the realms of independent hip-hop, dubstep, breakcore, IDM, avant-jazz or drone and noise. The basic modus operandi has always been to be open to all styles and look for unexpected combinations, whether in a club situation or at radio, while often provoking audiences by following their motto from the early days - Don't give people what they want, give them what they need!
For their "birthday bash", BGYSS have put together a tight line-up of their favorite live and DJ guests soaked in bass: from roots dub DJing from the BGYSS themselves early in the night, over the intriguing appearance of mysterious Nigerian/Serbian K.O.F.Y and their favorite emerging DJ talent form Belgrade Felony Flats, to international favorites: Dis-patch is proud to be presenting a live+DJ set from Hyperdub main man Kode 9, alongside his deep vocalist Spaceape, topped with a live set from T++, the Berlin low-end-tech hero who has been keeping himself mysteriously offstage until recently. Be sure to expect a perfect flow of bass-driven styles and sounds, and be ready to go forward with the bass!
