  • DJhistory.com presents DANCE MUSIC’S BASEMENT Dissident special Andy Blake & Jamie Peyton joining the Dj History Crew Nearest Tube Liverpool St Horse and Groom venue tel 02075039421 www.horseandgroom.net Dhistory.com’s monthly night is now TWO FLOORS of music and culture DJhistory’s monthly night at the wonderful Horse & Groom pub in Shoreditch has been a fixture among DJs, collectors and music lovers for the last 18 months. We’ve had a stellar cast of clued-up spinners bringing in their Secret Weapons, including Prins Thomas, Tako, Phil Mison, Diesel, Ross Allen, Andy Blake, Leo Elstob, Frank Tope, Luke Howard, The Idjut Boys and many more. Now we’re adding a whole new dimension, filling the top floor with a cultural programme of meaty goodness. NEW: DJhistory chat show We’re bringing our fantastic site alive, with the DJHISTORY CHAT SHOW. There’ll be live interviews and discussions with dance music’s heroes, veteran clubbers, and writers and experts. Subjects will range far and wide: London’s earliest clubs, mods, reggae, the 50s gay underground, digital vs analogue, the roots of disco... For example, Northern soul pioneer Ian Dewhirst will talk about going out for a pint of milk and getting on Concord instead; Sixties DJ Jeff Dexter will tell us all the black American bands he dropped acid with. Occasional documentary screenings too. NEW: DJhistory music quiz Who will be the toppermost of the poppermost? From War’s chart positions to Sting’s Tantric sex positions; guess the album cover and spot the intro (know your congas from your bongos). Every other month we’ll be getting quizzical, using the formidable knowledge of the DJhistory forum to help set the questions. It’ll be like a traditional pub quiz, except there won’t be any questions about geraniums or the second world war. Wide-ranging music knowledge, across all eras, all genres, is what will win it; questions will be Smash Hits, Mojo and Blues & Soul in equal measure. There’ll be fat cash prizes and goodies thrown in by a selected record label. NEW: Dealers welcome No, not those kind of dealers, these guys are selling something much more addictive. On selected nights we’ll host a DJHISTORY RECORD FAIR & SWAP SHOP, inviting the UK’s most respected record dealers to set up shop upstairs at the Horse & Groom. They’ll be playing their latest discoveries and most expensive treasures, with an LED display showing titles and prices and a sign to the nearest cash point. Vinyl junkies beware. And we'll encourage guests to bring their unwanted treasures to swap with each other Starts with the DJhistory Music Quiz, Thu 8 Oct
