Roll up roll up! Lock up your hats and hold onto your daughters because Just Jack is back with a rave from beyond the grave. The carnival rolls back into town for another one of our hell-raising Halloween fancy dress extravaganza's.
Welcomed back to the circus after the thorough whipping he gave the Dojo Lounge earlier in the year; the living legend Andrew Weatherall heads up Motion Skatepark’s enigmatic tunnel room. Carving out a reputation as the figurehead of the underground techno scene in the mid 90s, this man was mixing techno back when you were building lego. From his early days as a young hipster in the Junior Boys Own crew or his production on Primal Scream's essential Madchester document, Screamadelica, on through to his work with Radioactive Man under Two Lone Swordsmen, Weatherall has pushed relentlessly forward in as many directions as possible, rarely looking back take stock of his incredible oeuvre and all the while crafting inspiring DJ sets that effortlessly span genres and destroy dance floors. To put it simply… this man is a British hero.
Lurking amongst the bats and the cobwebs of the cave room resides one of electronic music’s biggest talents; Four Tet. Having released some of most interesting long players of the last decade, Kieren Hebden draws influences from far reaching genres such as jazz, dubstep and hip hop. A master remixer, his takes on established artists such as Radiohead, Aphex Twin and Bonobo have propelled him into the public sphere. 2009 has been a great year of Four Tet, teaming up with other master producer Burial to create two of the year’s most hauntingly beautiful releases. Unconstrained from stylistic trends, Four Tet DJ sets are always special.
Outside on the riverside terrace and under the full moon can be found the DJ’s of the moment; Disco Bloodbath. Creating quite a stir with their notorious hedonistic parties in the heart of their native Dalston, the boys have recently brought their midas touch to producing. A quick glance at their performance schedule this year will show their unique brand of disco is one of the most sought after sounds around today, with summer appearances at Bestival, Bugged Out! and Secret Sundaze under their belt.
Add a feast of carnival-esque wonders and perfomers, freakshows, visuals and magic and you’ve got yourself a very special Halloween celebration!
