  • Energy Flash: A semi regular series that is not a flash back, but a flash forward Drivers For The Night DJ DEVIL GIRL Minneapolis, MN (Devil Cake Techno, Android Assassins, Resident FNOOB Techno Radio, Resident 199Global, Ladies on Vinyl, The Gentle Children of Gein) https://www.facebook.com/devilgirlusa/ https://www.devilcaketechno.com/ I've been waiting to do this event since 2001. There's a lot I could say about Leigh Simmons, aka DJ Devil Girl. Well known across the Mid-West from the warehouse days of the 90's, Devil Girl made a name for herself with upfront and unapologetic techno. After a brief hiatus, she made a triumphant return to form in 2016 at Drop Bass Network's legendary Even Further festival. Since then she has gone on to host numerous webcasts, including her own Devil Cake Techno show on Fnoob Techno Radio, as well as play out at events across the Midwest and beyond. However, more important than all that, when a rave kid from South Carolina discovered techno in 2000 and was trying to learn about the form, Devil Girl took him under her wing and taught him about the genre after he encountered a lot of resistance from people around him who said that trance and progressive house were the things to listen to and that techno was no good. I'll be straight up, Leigh introduced me to Jeff Mills, Fanon Flowers, Jay Denham, and most importantly, told me to reach out to Ja'Maul Redmond as he was in my neck of the woods. I'm not going to say that I wouldn't have discovered everything eventually, but having great teachers along the way makes things a hell of a lot easier. Like I said, I've been waiting to do this since 2001. LONER.9 – LIVE P.A. Winston-Salem, NC (Activ-Analog, Abstracta Audio, Detroit Techno Militia) https://abstractaaudio.bandcamp.com/ https://detroittechnomilitia.bandcamp.com/ https://activ-analog.com Ja'Maul Redmond has been one of my goto people for years (damn, has it really been 17 now) for quality techno. There's a lot I can say, but check the links above for his work. ROB ROUSSEAU Raleigh, NC WKNC 88.1 When Rob Rousseau asks you if he can open up with a classic Detroit Techno vinyl set, you say yes. Duh. You know the Triangle, you know Rob. One of the architects of our scene, he introduced many different styles of dance music to people on the Afterhours show on NC State's 88.1 throughout the 90's, as well as gigs through out the region. But we know his resume already. Just be here is all I'm saying. Venue: Nightlight Bar and Club 405 1/2 West Rosemary Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 (Next to The Northside District, home of the Wu-Tang Slider) Door: $7 members/ $10 non members (memberships available at door) 10pm until 21+
