Banana Hill with Habibi Funk

  • Next up in our monthly residency we delve into the world of rare & inherently danceable Arabic music from the 60s, 70s & 80s with Habibi Funk, three years on from his UK debut with us in Sheffield. Habibi Funk was started by Jakarta Records co-founder Jannis, with a specific focus on sharing & reissuing essential 60s & 70s music from the Arab world. His mixtapes of amazing funk, disco, soul & psych take us on dusty vinyl journeys from Tunisia to Lebanon, Egypt to Morocco, Syria to Algeria and beyond. The label has become an example of how to run a re-issue imprint; extensive research trips and working closely with original artists and their families, as well as supporting different charitable causes with their merchandise range. 50% of proceeds from this night will be going to the Bath Centre for Adolescent Pain Services via the Forever Friends Appeal, who help young people suffering from complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). The unit also runs the only residential nurse-supported, high-dependency programme for adults with chronic pain in the UK: https://www.foreverfriendsappeal.co.uk/ http://www.rnhrd.nhs.uk/page/78
