Last year we started the first of what we hope will be many concerts at the Crypt on the Green, a unique location tucked away in the back streets of Clerkenwell. The aim is to produce an experience that takes its influence from the halcyon days of ambient rooms, whilst also providing a platform for a new generation of electronic musicians to articulate themselves outside the confines of more traditional venues. Audience members are encouraged to relax and stretch out, allowing for a more intimate way of engaging with the music.
The Transcendence Orchestra is a project born out of Bleep43, being Tony Child and our own Dan Bean. Tony’s involvement with Bleep43 goes back over a decade, having been a regular DJ at our parties under his Surgeon guise. Their debut LP, Modern Methods for Ancient Rituals, was released on cult Austrian label Editions Mego back in 2017, exploring the realm between synthesis and more traditional instrumentation
Bana Haffar joins us from the USA, making her UK debut. Having trained as a professional bass player, she has now embraced electronic music fully, exploring live modular synthesizer performance. She is an enthusiastic proponent of the latest Moog and eurorack technology and has a growing discography of releases (VENT, Make Noise Records) in the last couple of years that highlight a unique melodic direction. Through synthesis, Bana is attempting to dismantle years of institutional ‘conditioning’ in traditional systems of music theory. She is interested in the disintegration and coalescence of sound into new forms and synthesized experiences. Bana Haffar is part of the Touch Mentorship programme for 2019.
From Australia by way of Ireland, Mikron are Michael and Ciaran Corcoran. Whilst their debut album in 2016 channelled dancefloor electro, their forthcoming release on CPU, Severance, echoes and takes inspiration from the early 90s UK techno scene, recalling the bucolic and downtempo sound of Reload and Likemind.
The Apologist is the dub-centric side project of Brendan Nelson, who has a long history as an ambient DJ dating back to the days of the legendary Megatripolis. Silent since the seven inch version of Sorry! achieved cult status in 2006, the Apologist will resurface with a set of deep and spacious ambient dub.
The Bleep43 collective have been creating electronic music events in London since 2001, mutating from intimate techno and electro club nights to concerts at venues as diverse as the Purcell Rooms and the Brunel Museum. Please note that there is no bar at the Crypt on the Green, but you are allowed to BYO. Tea will also be available.
