  • MUSIQ CONCRETE - THE PLACE WHERE MUSIC HAPPENS @ FIRE & THE LIGHTBOX NEXT TO VAUXHALL TUBE STATION In a day an age where music has been compartmentalized into a selection of cliques, crews and cultures, the dependence on genres has clouded a resounding love for music that exudes quality. Musiq Concrete dared to dream… conceived from a desire to bring together a community of people with a yearning for pushing music forward and extending this aural democracy to all with the same desire. Finding a venue which architecturally supported this ethos was easy; Fire and Lightbox has held nights for every persuasion and its vast and varied design lead its inclusion to be immediate. The artists that are the ambassadors of this evening are figureheads of something really special and so, it shows….. The main room in the chasm of Fire is a selection of the most forward thinking names in London. Starting with Riton, a man who needs no introduction gets the nod from such icons as Erol Alkan, Soulwax and DJ Mehdi. He bridges the gap between heart palpitating electro and ass shaking house and his smooth productions and high energy sets are sure too keep you sweating till the wee hours. Fire also introduces the first lady of bass; Hannah Holland; the Batty Bass chief has been delivering some of the biggest party’s in London, and she has a big room sound that will leave even Fire reeling from the heat! If that’s not enough invigorating genre demolisher tyrant, Duke Dumont teams up with Italian upstart, Mowgli and electro floor thrashers CCassette Jam, DJ Cooks and Casper C, ooo la la! Lightbox is considered by many to be the exuberant jewel in the crown of South London’s varied and dynamic clubbing armoury. With undoubted comparisons to Berlin’s mecca Watergate, this LED ridden paradise mounts an unstoppable assault on the senses and the room is hosted by London’s freshest producer CSY. Finding time between reinventing Diplo weapons and churning out some seriously slick beats he has curated a room of quite brilliant artists. Competition undoubtedly brings out the best in people; Musiq Concrete embraces the fact, so DJ’s going toe to toe and the yearning to push the crowd harder and harder always yields dramatic results! With Herve and Sinden’s prodigy Martello and dub demon L-VIS 1990 getting this moving… a series of battles will break out encompassing bouncing old school vibes from CSY vs DJ Khalil, while the highly acclaimed Public House vs Dalston Beatdown kick off the techno tear up, big strong and fruity! Filth & Splendour vs James Harcourt keep things on course before Tidy’Rhythm vs DJ Tuco mash it all together in one beat driven milkshake. Breath out… that’s gonna be a monster! …….. Music is not just magic behind the decks and Musiq Concrete sees that importance of the enigmatic frontman, the genius of instrumental brilliance, all ingredients of the beauty that is the Live experience. Hosted by Best Laid Plans the emphasis is on all the elements of connecting with the crowd via individuality, improvisation and real time brilliance. With Border Community’s Nathan Fake and the dream weaving duo, Futurecop! This looks to be a room that will rip the roof off. So… with all that’s going on I’m gonna need to get some rest in, get my ticket, keep my ears pricked and get ready for a night of frankly, brilliant Musiq!
