KAOS presents Pandora's Jukebox + Hoarder

  • We are delighted to present the world debut of Hoarder at Kaos London. Hoarder is the latest project in a long line of collaborations between Andy Butler (Hercules and Love Affair) and multi-media artist Joie Iacono. Building a sonic world sourced from organic, electronic, and found sounds, the two have waded neck deep into noise-oriented, darker territories over the past 3 years in the studio- and just the tip of the iceberg will soon be revealed with a new EP on London based Khemia Records. While the four tracks on this first Hoarder release definitely nod to 80’s industrial and techno, with Butler’s knack for arrangement and tenure producing music and their combined years steeped in the culture, the tracks feel inspired by the era rather than replications or straight homage. The intention to create a complete visual world alongside these musical experiments is very evident in the video for “Tetanus Spike”. Culling from her years as a studied visual artist, under names like David Armstrong, Dike Blair, Annie Sprinkle and Billy Sullivan, Iacono’s nuanced and sometimes brutal take on portraiture and her inherent sense of rhythm with the moving image boldly comes through. The anti-aesthetic and chaos they are investigating most definitely reflects from their shared love of Fluxus and Actionist art, and the power of performance. The two have already entirely realized video projects, taking on all aspects of the production themselves. As for the live iteration of Hoarder- it has the same demolishing presence that both their visual and sonic expressions suggest, as do the pair’s DJ sets. Ultimately, in an existential moment of fragmentation, unease, and a creeping sense of powerlessness Hoarder’s approach feels right. Rejecting the superficial and longing for lost authenticity, the time to destroy and rebuild has indeed come, and Hoarder can and will further help provoke it’s onset. To introduce Hoarder to London Joie Iacono will play a rare DJ set for this event. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pandora’s Jukebox’s monthly “Renegade Soundwaves” for NTS radio are low pitch/ high IQ sonic rituals, for those who get hungry at night. Her unique sound is a slow and steady flow of electric magma made of brutalist basslines, 80’s abstraction and techno with a capital NO, becoming an institution among the most seminal underground clubs in Europe and North America. Taking her first steps in Torture Garden dungeons and east London's late 90's squat rave scene, Pandora's Jukebox made it all the way up to Tate turbine hall with NTS and Raf Simons all female army of djs for Calvin Klein's after party, caught the eye of the Berghain Saule experiment, escalating to Berghain main dancefloor 13th bday party and Panorama bar, she's also resident of Cicciolina Paris and long standing Art Basel’s noisemaker, solidifying her long-standing flirt with fashion and art. The body of artists she shared stages with is a further proof of her no-compromise approach to music, spanning from Arca, Sunn O))), Einsturzende Neubauten, HTRK, Total freedom, Bill Kouligas and Tolouse Lowtrax, just to name a few. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The night will be bookended by Dahc Dermur VIII and Choronzon playing the opening and closing sets respectively.
