  • Marry Klein Club Festival 2019 The motivation: More participation, more visibility - more women and non-binary people, more diversity. These are some of the rising demands of the last years. The high societal relevance of these topics becomes especially clear in the light of examples like the Hurricane Festival - which recently presented only male bands in their first big announcement. But also the electronic music scene is mostly a boys club: The most recent study of “Female:Pressure” shows that only 15% of the worldwide festival bookings are female/non-male/mixed artists. This substantial imbalance can simply not be ignored. The plan: Collectives and groups have been founded all around the world to do something about this situation. Be it events, studies or grabbing public attention with speeches and activism. Munich`s feminist Club Festival MARRY KLEIN wants to provide an open space for discussions, meet-ups and to collaborate in creating a truely inclusive scene for anybody. This year`s special focus is on practical networking and exchange of ideas. People can get to know each other, create something together and (like always) have a lot of fun together. A range of collectives and activist groups like WUT or musicBYwomen actively shape the whole month and will happily provide any kind of insight or information. The goal: MARRY KLEIN is a call to action! For female artists* to step out in the open and to show that nobody is on its own - especially for young non-male talents who may not yet have the courage to express themselves. In times of equal opportunity and diversitsy we want to sensitize for this hot topic and at the same time inspire and help the diverse artists of tomorrow. Diversity can bring so much to the whole scene. We want to create role models to identifiy with and to be possible guidance. We want to learn with each other and from each other. Because even if there might not be a bad intention behind this imbalance it is still clear that the problem is a structural one. Therefore it can only be tackled by a full month of exclusively working with female artists. Needless to say: A full month of only male artists would probably not even catch any attention at all. The long time goal is of course to make these distinctions obsolete because the music scene itself will mirror the diversity and wide range of perspectives life has to offer.
