Tony Humphries is a true Renaissance Man in the fields of dance and music. This is not to be missed. With a number of gold record releases, legendary residencies at Zanzibar and Ministry of Sound, his labels Yellorange and Tony Records, as well as acclaimed radio shows on KISS FM and HOT 97, Tony’s 35+ year career has landed him as bonafied ‘King of House’. Continuing to influence the up and coming generation of electronic music through both his musical achievements and dedication to the scene, seeing this true maestro behind the decks is unforgettable. He is joined on this day by DC’s Heather Femia, Flash-residents Mazi R and Phil Hackley aka Dj Soul. Tony is all of those things and more. Decades later, Tony is as restless, questing, and searching for new challenges as ever. Tony Humphries has been DJing nearly 35 years, an incredible achievement that in any other industry would be rewarded with a carriage clock or service medal. His big break came through a chance meeting with Mastermixer Shep Pettibone at the offices of Prelude Records. Tony handed the maestro a tape and the rest is history. Humphries’ star rose as his KISS FM show (and later HOT 97) lasted for decades. Although Humphries was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he has long been associated with New Jersey and due to his long-held residency at Newark’s Club Zanzibar that began in 1982. “It wasn’t like going to a house club, everything was intertwined,” explains Tony. “The hours were long, so obviously you didn’t want to hear ten hours of straight house music. If you’re going to pay $15-20 to hear this guy, you want to hear the whole damn spectrum. You had to come with everything possible. Talking Heads and The B-52s don’t sound like Zanzibar/Garage records, but they were. I think that’s what the Zanzibar’s appeal was.” (continue at residentadvisor.net/dj/tonyhumphries/biography) HEATHER FEMIA: As the Corporate Fashion Director for Nordstrom, Heather created soundtracks to designer fashion events across the country. Trend hunting in night spots, in great fashion cities, was part of the job. Heather's love of dance music came from attending iconic New York parties such as Body & Soul, Sound Factory, Shelter, and the Roxy. In Washington Tracks, was her regular spot. After a decade in fashion, Heather began focusing solely on music about 15 years ago. During that time, she has been responsible for the musical backdrop to high profile parties in Washington's grand locations such as on The National Mall. In New York, Heather spun for an event at Grand Central Station. She has even played under the tents for Cirque de Soleil. Currently, travel to music hot spots continue to inspire. Her show, Fluent, airs monthly on the Ibiza air ways, on Ibiza Live Radio. It features ethnic sounds from downtempo to tribal house.
