Foundations & Tropicalé team up once again, this time bringing the well recognised outfit London Afrobeat Collective to the venue for a DJ set.Ever since Fela Kuti coined the term in the late 1960s Afrobeat has become one of Africa’s greatest musical gifts to the world, alerting many in the West of this glorious continent’s unbounded musical ability.
A synthesis between traditional West-African genres such as High Life and mainly Western exports like Funk and Jazz, it was an exhilaratingly new type of sound that would reinvigorate the focus on groove and rhythm in popular music. More than half a century on London Afrobeat Collective are powered by a promise to continue what the father Fela Kuti began. From Europe to Africa, Glastonbury to “Felabration”, they deliver party-music born of their truly global DNA. The nine-strong collective from England, Italy, France, Congo, Argentina and New Zealand combine Fela, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Frank Zappa, to create an addictive sound drawing on Funk, Jazz, Rock, and Dub to create something new and frankly indescribable.
Foundations and Tropicalé are incredibly excited to host a DJ set from them alongside our typical rabble of confetti, party-bags and décor – previous visitors to our Afriquoi show will know this is bound to be a lot of fun!
