Bruno Morphet started djing in 1996 at the Magnet in Cape Town. After a
stint there playing an eclectic mix of latin, jazz and house music he found
his way into the burgeoning Cape Town underground scene and began to
specialize more in the deeper side of dance music, spinning guest slots at
parties such as Foo Funk, Voyage, Essential Mix, MCQP, Synergy, many nights
at the legendary More and as support to a variety of international guest
djs.
In 2000, Bruno played his first gigs abroad in New York City, at clubs in
Manhattan and Brooklyn. Returning to the mother city, he founded the Return
to the Deep parties in 2001, managing and promoting these specialist music
events both in Cape Town and other parts of the country, in addition to
holding down an acclaimed residency at Deluxe that ran for 2 years.
In 2004 a chance booking alongside techno stalwart Ivan Turanjanin led to a
collaboration at the newly built Fiction and Killer Robot was born. Bruno is
now joint resident at Killer Robot spinning quality underground electronic
music every Friday, as well as playing an active role in curating the night,
inviting and djing alongside names like Butane, Ryan Crosson, Konrad Black,
Alex Smoke, Seth Troxler and Jeremy P Caulfield. It is this determination to
showcase and collaborate with the finest djs and producers on the world
circuit that has helped propel Bruno onto the cutting edge of South Africa's
techno scene.
In addition to his weekly residency at Killer Robot, Bruno has also been the
support dj of choice for the likes of Lee Burridge, Luciano and James
Zabiela on their tours of South Africa. Most recently he conducted a mini
tour in Germany, playing at Distillery Leipzig with Christian Fischer and a
marathon 6 hours with Ryan Crosson, Seth Troxler and Shaun Reeves at their
infamous Soul Shower night at Berlin's Cub Der Visionaere.
