Rarely do acts emerge from the house scene that are more influential and respected than the legendary Metro Area duo from New York City.
The brainchild of veteran producers Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, Metro Area was born out of the pair's dichotomous love for both the old moods of disco and boogie and the more cutting-edge sound of innovative house and techno. Metro Area brings back the soulful experimentation of the early club classics, mixing live and electronic instruments.
Their unique blend of the synthetic and the organic, with equal passion for both early Detroit techno and Harlem-birthed underground disco, has cultivated a strong following that spans more than one generation of dance music fans and DJs. And through this particular blend of electronic and organic instruments, Metro Area achieves the art of being both futuristic and retro at the same time. This is disco, house, and techno coming together in a unique and timeless fashion.
Metro Area’s self-titled album from 2002 was an instant classic, with praise from a wide spectrum of critics including The Wire and New York Times. The album even made it into the rock-bible Rolling Stone Magazine’s top 50 best albums that year.
In 2008 Metro Area were asked if they would kindly do the next instalment of world-renowned London club Fabric’s mix-series, and the result was a wonderful collection of curve-balls and future classics aimed at the most eclectic and forward-thinking dancefloors around the world.
