Having made our mark on Brighton's music scene for 4 + years now, striving to provide this city with the best music week-in-week-out we thought we'd turn the focus on our residents a little more. Here-in comes FOCAL, a new series for Patterns kicking off with two stellar events this winter.
The idea is simple, each resident will in time invite an artist they have a connection with to play with them all night long. FOCAL will not be defined by set times; each party will unravel naturally.

Saturday 9th November Jo Mehtola invites Willow (Workshop Records), having spun at the venue three times (twice with Mehtola), we deemed this a natural step for her next look at the booth. As with Charles, Mehtola has been involved with the venue since the beginning, playing alongside the likes of Roi Perez, Craig Richards, Hunee, Helena Hauff and more. Known for manning the counter at Brighton's Middle Floor Records his depth of breadth of knowledge across genres is testament to a true record dealer.
Manchester's finest Willow aka Sophie Wilson is the purveyor of a style defined from a bubbling melting pot of dubby textures, minimal patterns and stripped back influences. With an output spanning the realms of classic hip-hop, stripped back broken beat and sparse elements of leftfield house and ambient techno; Willow has developed a sound that's unusually distinctive, yet hard to define.
Willow's introduction came in 2014 when veteran DJ Move D included her first production 'Feel Me' in his Fabric 74 mix. Having pricked ears when he played the track out for the first time, Move D passed 'Feel Me' on to his friend Lowtec - who decided to give it a full release in a compilation on his Workshop imprint the following year. The Mancunian talent is at the top of her game.

The upstairs bar will be sound-tracked by fellow resident Momo. Known best for her appearances at one of Brighton's best parties, Discojuice and now her regular slot on Balamii Radio. Her style traverses the more unusual, rhythm and percussion-focused areas of dance music - mixing everything from squeaky leftfield house to gritty techno into melodic pop vocals. The two parties will see her stretch her sound to fit the laid-back settings of the ground floor bar.
