Vetrans of sound join together in a special, one off fundraising event on Wednesday 16 December 2009 at Canal 125 Club, London to support John Minney who has recently been caught up in an entrapment operation on Lamma Island Japan, and is now facing a potentially long prison sentence. John Minney is a much loved original figure on the acid house scene, and is responsible for seminal bash ‘The Betty Ford Clinic’ which was attended by London’s original djs, producers and other industry folk who have since gone on to be regarded as key acid house figures. There wasn’t many of them John Minney didn’t know. John has been living on Lamma Island as part of a large community of ex-pats for a few years now, and John’s detention is felt to be extreemly unfair and a very unjust use of police resources in the opinion of many critics as well as local folk who are aware of his situation. Press report here: http://www.geoexpat.com/forum/thread58671.html This event on Wednesday 16 December is the main London fundraiser to help get John the best legal aid possible throughout his appeal and to ensure he receives the justice he deserves, and is back home as soon as possible. It is also going to be a ‘Betty Ford Clinic’ reunion party, so will be a chance to get all of the old faces together again. One of the most important will of course be missing though… Virtually retired Paul Daley (Leftfield) is one of the men behind hugely important 90s house and techno album Leftism. Leftfield were partly responsible for shaping a generation, and Paul Daley has stepped up to play a near on exclusive set in honour of John Minney and to help the cause. Jon Carter, who has spent most of 2009 toiling away as usual and rocking up dance floors up and down the country this year, including playing epic sets at festivals Bestival and Big Chill, has also offered to dj without hesitation and most imporatantly to help his good friend John. Other guests and special friends of John who are offering up their arms and record collections in support are Brandon Block, Rad Rice, Uncle Al, Billy Nasty. There are more names to be confirmed Whether you know John or not, this event is still a mid-weeker not to miss - if anyone knows how to put a party on it’s this lot! Andrew Weatherhall, who is gutted to be missing this event due to other commitments, has even mixed a special CD to be given away at the event: * Exclusive "Free the Loveranch 1" CDs mixed by Andrew Weatherhall for 'golden ticket' holders – winners will be announced on the night* press contact: Anna Wharton 07968 542 566 [email protected]
