Home (For the Holidays)

  • Bang Tech 12 Proudly Presents: "HOME" (for the holidays) An Underground Experience! Featuring Antwon Faulkner, Hijacked Records Detroit - (Toronto/Detroit) https://hijacked-records-detroit.lnk.to/music-merchFA Antwon Faulkner has been in the game for nearly three decades now. Born and raised in Detroit, Antwon started hustling mixtapes at the age of sixteen. With music in his blood, this is truly what he was born to do. At thirty-five Antwon briefly relocated to Arizona but it wasn’t until late 2008 when he moved to Toronto, did we really get exposed to this next exciting chapter. While people may be more familiar with his DJ moniker, the infamous “Twonz,” in 2009 we got to know a new Antwon, an Antwon re-energized, excited and motivated. His focus shifted from throwing parties and DJing to making music and really honing his craft as a producer. Spending countless hours in the studio, Antwon is careful to avoid listening to others while in his creative zone so the product reflects him and him alone, devoid of any outside influences. With an upgrade in equipment and new pieces of gear, we’ve seen Antwon turn a corner in which he has found his lane and is settling in really nicely. While he still regularly releases tracks on his own imprint, “Hijacked Records Detroit,” recent years have seen him spreading the love with multiple releases and remixes on “Restructured Recordings,” “Bulletdodge Records,” “KMS Records.” "Downside UP," "Elephanthaus," "Thoughtless Music," "Motech LTD," "UNT Records," "Frequenza," "Sampled Detroit," and "RF Trax." In 2018 he received a TESTIMONIAL RESOLUTION PLAQUE FROM THE CITY OF DETROIT for his contributions in bringing the sound of Detroit to an international audience. punisher, HEJ RECORDS - (Boston/Detroit) Michelle Herrmann, better known to the masses as Punisher, began her music career back when mix tapes were still popular. She is a Detroit native with over 23 years behind the turntables, synthesizers and drum machines . Michelle was drawn to music and the creative side of life from the beginning. She was fortunate to find her way into the early 90’s Detroit techno scene when the energy was awe inspiring, from that moment Punisher emerged. As a record aficionado, her preference behind the decks is playing vinyl and her knowledge of records is vast. Her studio tracks are devoted to hardware, analog gear and spontaneous live mix downs. A strong understanding of machines and midi programming allows her to perform powerful, dance floor igniting, live PA sets that take you on a journey through hypnotic, cerebral soundscapes. Michelle released her first two records in 1997 on Detroit label Matrix and has since appeared on over 40 different releases on internationally recognized labels including Detroit Underground, Synewave and her own imprint Hej Records. While mainly focused on techno and house, Michelle has the ability to play across multiple genres. Punisher has performed at clubs and festivals all over the globe, alongside world renowned acts such as Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, and The Orb. Michelle will continue to travel where the music takes her in pursuit of musical enlightenment. Dru Ruiz, Cultured Citizens - (Detroit) Born and raised in Detroit, Dru Ruiz was surrounded by a rich music culture from the start. As a young lad, his family would take him to Mexican festivals in downtown’s Hart Plaza, where he became immersed in live music and the art of dance through rap battles and break dancing showcases. His love for music continued to grow, and by 1993, he dove into Detroit’s techno scene and experienced his first underground party at the Packard Plant, a staple in the city’s early ‘90s rave culture. Ruiz was instantly hooked on the developing techno sound, spending an entire summer doing odd gigs to pay for his first Technics 1200 turntables. After locking himself in his bedroom to learn the art of mixing and scratching under the guidance of techno pioneer Mike Huckaby, Ruiz landed his 1995 debut performance at the Burns Room in Saint Andrews Hall. Steadily developing his career, he closed out the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival (now Movement) in 2000 with a three-hour set on the C-Pop stage. Fast forward 15 years and Ruiz—who has now played dozens of events and festivals all over North America—is a versatile turntablist, having developed a distinct style of mixing through an ear for exceptional track selection and a knack to create novel sounds. With a style that ranges from techno to electro to hip-hop, Ruiz has distinguished himself as a multitalented DJ and an important part of Detroit’s electronic music culture, joining Bang Tech 12 as one of the collective’s original members and holding residencies at Eastown Theatre and Buddha Lounge. Ruiz currently runs Cultured Citizens, his own music-releasing platform, label, and production company. He’s also the mastermind behind the Old Miami’s celebrated Sunday day parties, a summer favorite in Detroit for the past five years. Recently joining the Modified Artists roster, Ruiz continues to explore new ventures and give back to Detroit, building his career and sound around the city that shaped his passion for live music.
