  • Simulation artist Lawrence Lek and Hyperdub artist/founder Kode9 present a live audio-visual show inspired by themes of full automation and post-work utopias set in the shadow of the existential threats posed by artificial intelligence. The Nøtel is a fully automated, luxury hotel in a post-scarcity world in which the only thing in short supply is humans. The performance guides the audience on a first-person/drone tour through its uncanny architecture. In sprawling chambers, deep within slick glass corridors, they encounter warped spaces, quantum clouds, gravitational pools, dancing voids and holograms of the dead. Nazar’s musical world centres around the extreme violence, injustice and omnipresence of a repressive state during and after the 27-year Angolan civil war, simultaneously exploring hope, resilience and pride in a country torn apart by conflict. After the civil war ended in 2002 Nazar who was raised in Belgium returned to Angola. It was at this point he began music production , making his own unique take on Angola’s Kuduro music. Nazar inverts Kuduro, weaving war sounds like guns cocking and airstrike swooshes, lacing cold synths with cascading percussion and swells of noise. His lyrics focus on massacres and violence, chanting and taunts against the dictatorship. Nazar calls this ‘Rough Kuduro’ a term he coined through a hashtag on his soundcloud page. Shannen SP is a London based DJ, A&R and the co-curator, alongside Kode9, and resident of London’s mid-week monthly Hyperdub event Ø as well as a NTS Radio resident. As a DJ, her sets explore club sounds through an afro-diasporic lens, ranging from kuduro to gqom and other emerging styles coming out of the continent and it's diaspora. She focuses on layering afro-polyrhythms with political narratives for a fierce and entrancing experience. Recent stand out sets include Tresor, De School, Nyege Nyege festival and Berghain with Hyperdub Records. By the time that Silvia Kastel released her acclaimed debut album, ‘Air Lows’ on Blackest Ever Black in 2018, she was already a prominent figure on the experimental and electronic underground. Having founded the label Ultramarine at twenty years old (now on hiatus), she produced a series of revelatory mixes that confidently explored the outer limits and inner workings of industrial, dub, extreme electronics, contemporary club, as well as collaborating with and releasing a number of like-minded artists emerging from the avant-garde underground. As a DJ, Kastel is no less sonically ambitious. Whether warming up for DJ Stingray in Ohm, alongside Actress and the London Contemporary Orchestra or taking the reins at peak time in clubs such as Berghain, De School and ://about blank, her reputation precedes her as a diverse and experimental selector, whose singular taste can unite the most disparate of genres, styles and tempos. If Kastel’s music often concerns the difficult relationship between technology and humanity, then the generous attitude of her club sets only serves to unite the latter.
