English electronic musician, DJ, neuroscientist, and maverick producer Floating Points, armed with an arsenal of Buchla synthesizers and Korg drum machines, has been announced for a special live show at the Odeon Theatre in January 2020.
Touring with his new critically-acclaimed album ‘Crush’ (released Oct 2019 on Ninja Tune), Floating Points—aka Sam Shepherd—has had a morphing artistic output in so many guises that it’s not easy to pin him down.
He has entranced dancefloors at Glastonbury (UK), Coachella (US), Dekmantel (NL), Rainbow Disco Club (JP), Pitchfork Festival (EU) and Laurie Anderson’s Rewire 2018 (UK) among many more, and also hosts the internationally renowned You’re A Melody DJ parties and co-runs the Melodies International reissues label.
Floating Points’ critically-acclaimed, self-composed and recorded debut album ‘Elaenia’ in 2015 was released on his own label Pluto Records, which bridged the gap between dance music and his formative classical roots. This was followed up with in 2016 with the sweeping ‘Kuiper’ EP, and again in 2017 with ‘Reflections - Mojave Desert’, a short film and soundtrack featuring tracks recorded in the Mojave Desert, as well as ‘Ratio’; an epic track bordering on 19-minutes that harks back to his earlier dance floor focussed releases.
